Civitavecchia train station to Largo della Pace cruise passenger shuttle pickup

Getting off of the train from Rome at Civitavecchia in order to board a cruise ship. Before my trip I was rather anxious about the transfer from the train station to the ship so I diligently attempted to research it. The information I found was limited, but it was very simple once I actually did it.
The bus from the train station to Largo della Pace (the cruise passenger entry point) does cost a small fee, but the bus transfer from Largo della Pace to the cruise terminal is free. I had purchased my train ticket from Rome to “Civitavecchia Porto” instead of only “Civitavecchia” so it included the bus fee/fare in the cost of the ticket and I only had to show the train ticket to the bus attendant. If I had not purchased it at the same time I purchased my train ticket I would have had to enter the train station to purchase a ticket for the short bus ride.
One other note…regardless of where you go in or around Rome, be prepared to walk/carry luggage up and down stairs. Many subway and train stations are not very handicap accessible.

Just repeated Brian’s path last month. They have made one small adjustment at the train station that makes things easier…instead of having one bus pick you up at the station and shuttle you to a central point so other buses can take you to your individual ships they now have the direct-to-ship buses at the train station with a person there who directs you to the correct bus. It costs an extra 1€, but one less transition on the way to the ship is worth it.

That certainly makes things easier. Especially since there’s not an extra transfer of luggage from bus to bus.

Thank you for the information @Larry S! Can I pay it at the time I arrive to Civitavecchia station? I'm asking this because when looking at Trenitalia website the Destination "Civitavecchia Porto" does not gives results but selecting just "Civitavecchia" does so I guess this bus is not included in the train ticket anymore..

@@therafa_br Rafael, I think you’re correct. There is a shop in the train station and you can buy tokens for the bus there. I also think, but can’t confirm, that you can pay as you board the bus.

I recently received a comment that stated that the the buses to the ships are now picking people up directly from the train station so there is no need to purchases the extra bus ticket and you you just select Civitavecchia instead of Civitavecchia Porto when purchasing your train ticket. @@johnglowinski1321 went in October also (in 2019). The mornings were cool but the day time would get relatively warm (about 80 degrees F). It was a nice time to go.

There's got to be a coach station in Rome with buses that take you to your ship. All the cruise ships from Southampton UK leave coaches at Victoria station.

We arrive the Civitavecchia station with the 6 Euro bus ticket and stood in the sun for 2 hours waiting for the bus. Only bus is exclusive for Norwegian and MSC every 45 minutes. There is no bus to the port entrance. Most people give up by walking to the gate for 30 minutes 0.8 miles or take a taxi. Even at the gate, we have to wait another 45 minutes go get transported inside the port to a tent 0.4 miles from berth 12e. We just finished joining a cruise from Rome ( Civitavecchia) in August 2023. Do not buy the 6 Euro bus ticket to the port bus, there is no bus take you to the gate and there is no one you can ask questions. We stood in the hot sun for 2 hours and no bus. The white bus comes every 40 minutes and only go the Norwegian and MSC ships. Most people have to walk the 0.8 miles with luggage to the gate or share a high price taxi for the 10 minute ride to the gate. At the gate, you have to wait another 45 minutes to board a bus to your ship. What a mess.

I had heard it changed since the pandemic. I’m not certain how it is now, but it certainly sounds like you had a miserable time. We went in 2019 when there was a bus for all of the cruise lines.

Norwegian Epic and I was there in Civitavechia to but never ever cruised with NCL.

I've cruised with the big three. I prefer Carnival when I'm taking kids and either NCL or RCL when traveling as a couple.

Where on the ticket, does it show the train platform from Rome station, am I not seeing it?

Honestly I still don’t know. I had to take it to the information booth and let them look at it and they told me which platform it was leaving from. Sorry I couldn’t provide a better answer.

In 2019 when I made this video that was correct, BUT a recent comment on this video said they are now offering direct to ship shuttles at the train station for 1 euro. I don’t know this to be true but that’s what a comment about a month ago reported….
