Cliff Notes: the biggest gripe is looks, a completely subjective topic, but really happy with this knife’s function. This knife and many Civivis are as revolutionary looking as many $300+ knives out there. If anything, they have a more classic look. But let’s be honest, and I’m gonna piss off a lot of the knife snobs out there, these knife companies HAVE to come out with “new models” every year and when you really look at functionality, there’s not much to do to reinvent the wheel. Sure, justify your $300+ knife purchase (I have a few), but knives are designed to last and cut things well. Haven’t seen much of anything about these failing and I’ll best most people put the $50-$100 range knives to work vs the high dollar knives that stay in a case.

Have the brass version of this one, absolutely love it to bits. To each its own I guess... I bought it after decking my Benchmade 940 with brass scales, and find I use the Baklash much more because it's heavier and bigger. No need to defend Civivi here though, they're doing just great. What I did notice - and take it for what it's worth - is that this particular talk is kind of all over the place. You know your stuff clearly, but might want to script it a little for the next one, or get some pointers down. Again: feel free to ignore, but you have the energy and the voice for it, so could be really good if you tweak that part a little.

I bought a black Backlash about 7 months ago and although I like it well enough, I don't feel motivated to buy any more civivis. I agree it's their best knife and the others aren't different enough to interest me. As of late I have been buying Spyderco, Hogue and Kershaw. Good video, I can't disagree with anything you said.

I'm not looking to buy a bunch of knives or collect them. I'm just looking for a solid folding knife that is around $50, is durablea dn can be worked with on a daily basis. Feels like there is an endless amount of knives in that category, so I just narrowed it down to Civivi. Really thinking about getting the Baklash and be done with it. But Im having a hard time trying to choose between the Baklash and the Riffle which is a slightly smaller and a 14C28N blade (which Im not sure I even need anyway)

I have a praxis and I love it. But the pocket clip failed day one. I’m so confused I didn’t bend it or pull on it or anything. Just took it out of my pocket and it was straight. It was tight all day. And then bam. 🤔☹️

The Benchmade will hold its edge a lot longer. Civivi steel is usually crap Chinese steel not much better than a $10 knife that hides within a nicely designed exterior.

User category for knives as tools/weapons is 20 to 180, for me, you get into the 210,230,350 range, you walk into the collectors world of collectors prices because let's face it--- professionals of every shape and shade most likely aren't going to buy a 350 dollar knife to use as a tool or weapon. Ultimately you don't need too many variations of the same thing. Example, a special forces soldier won't take a we knife, zero tolerance knife or a Sebenza, or Xm18 into the field.

I tried to stay far away from the cheapie trend. Not against it, it just doesn’t work for me. The Elementum and praxis and a Kershaw were my first knives for EDC, returned all Of them and put that money towards a Manix 2... never looked back. For, me it makes no sense to have 3-4 subpar knives when you can have one great one!

The biggest problem with US made knives? It takes 3 hours in a showroom to find one that looks decent. Their just so plain, and stuck in that "Wild West" aesthetic, leather everything, and all the pocket knives are trappers. My wife love's KA-BAR, but half of them come from Taiwan now, so half the buying incentive is gone. Civivi's, CRKT's, & Böker may not use the pinnacle of metals or materials, but I'll point someone toward those options, instead of trying to explain why they should pay 3 to 4 times as much for something "Made in the US". Even if they claim that, it's much more likely, what they mean is, "Assembled in the US". Getting around Chinese steel is only going to become more difficult, as Mexico is happy to be a staging point for Chinese parts.

Alright here’s my take on Civivi...I’m bored with them...which seems to be somewhat your take as well. I can not argue with their quality, materials and price...they absolutely WIN those categories! But their designs are pretty stale. As you mentioned they make minor tweaks and put out a “new model”. I still recommend them to people...buy 1 maybe 2 and move on🤷🏼‍♂️. Great video man!

I heard that now from several youtubers... that CIVIVI is not creative with their desings, that they are not evolving and everything looks similar. Maybe you guys don't understand the philosophy that WE have for CIVIVI! It is their budget brand! Period. Their fancy stuff they produce under WE.
@itsaknifestyle8482
@itsaknifestyle8482 3 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry but your reasoning doesn’t make any since. Your saying that WE cannot produce creative designs for Civivi because they are budget knives. It doesn’t cost any money to design a knife. Civivi is just pumping out a ton of knives to get the initial hype of a new knife. Like I said they are producing quantity over quality. If you want to keep buying four different versions of the same knife, be my guest. I’ll stick to more creative knives made in America
@alexanderbertallo1995
@alexanderbertallo1995 3 жыл бұрын
@@itsaknifestyle8482 what part of budget knives you don't understand? WE pay lots of money for many of their top designs respectively for those designers they are working with. They could not pay them with 35.00$ knives. You want fancy then pay for it! Don't matter if USA made or elsewhere. If you want top designs and top quality you got to pay extra, don't matter if it is a Benz from Germany, an Andrew Demko custom or the newest Apple product. You wanna support American made, GO FOR IT! Everyone wanna support their home team, I got it! But don't criticize what you don't understand or let's say what you refuse to understand... If there is any other maker "not made in China" that deliver the quality, quantity and customer service at these price points let me know. Freaking 10 years ago you could NOT buy ANYTHING OF SIMILAR QUALITY for 35.00$ in the entire knife industry and companies like WE changed that! It wasn't Victorinox out of Switzerland nor was it Chris Reeve himselfe. It were Chinese Companies! As a knife nerd you should be grateful for that! And not beating on them just cause they are milking the cow as long it gives milk... this is capitalism as its finest and it wasn't China who invented it... it's just what it is! Take it or leave it...
@jordandixon2087
@jordandixon2087 3 жыл бұрын
They can be creative without spending tons of money. Plenty of companies are staying under the same price points as civivi, but they’re designs are vastly different. The point he’s making is all of (or at least most of) the civivis look similar.
@alexanderbertallo1995
@alexanderbertallo1995 3 жыл бұрын
@@jordandixon2087 I agree, vastly different designs and as vastly different are their selling numbers. The guys at WE found a formula to sell budget knives in a price range that they and other brands which produce in China helped to create in the first place. These companies defined and are defining the quality standart of this segment. This segment don't have much room for extra ordinary designs nor for the errors to experiment while delivering that quality standart that CIVIVI does. CRKT who is one of the biggest players in that segment, is one of those companies that goes that route of more innovative and extraordinary designs but offers a wide variety of qualities or let's say quality issues. And many of their experiments you can still buy 10 years later for half the price cause they simply don't sell that well. Look at the top sellers of this entire segment within the last couple of years. You won't find too many different designs there that actually work in this segment. You find a few different styles that sell well and that is why so many knives look the same nowadays. That is why many knife enthusiasts turn their back at this segment cause they are bored and so am I. Yes most of the CIVIVI's look the same! Cause it is the same concept over and over. That is why WE created CIVIVI so that they can maximize their output and income based on this concept. He criticize a budget sub-brand with no regards to what concept is behind it, as if the guys at WE would not understand what they are doing... they just offer what the market screams for: snappy detent, flipper action, drop shuttiness, ergos, and easy to carry, lightwheight, thiness behind the edge, edge retention, AND PRICE! Most of the knife reviewers sound like papagaios... But at least most of the knife and gear channels understand that they are a part of the industry and that they only exist cause of this industry, so they show alot of love when they handle a knife that offers a great value. So they respect the maker cause they understand whats behind. Who makes a 30 minute review about a good knife and tells his viewers that is going to turn the back at this sub-brand cause he is bored of their line-up? Just review the knives you'd like to, what else?
@jordandixon2087
@jordandixon2087 3 жыл бұрын
@@alexanderbertallo1995 okay well he made the review probably because he wants to give his opinion it after having it for a year or so. Also while reviewing the knife he thought’d he’d give his opinion on the brand itself. He didn’t make a 30 minute rant about the brand it was just a segment, just because it’s his video and he can. Also the idea that a brand can’t produce good quality budget knives without them all looking the same is flawed. They can still make good and innovative designs while keeping quality good and prices low. That is possible you’re saying that that idea is completely impossible which is not true.

Its funny you say you all succeeding knives are just a variant of the backlash with just minor differences. Well look at the sabenzas. Aside from material differences, they are pretty much the same knife. I have one. Nice knife but dam, I'll never pay that much again for a knife. The backlash to me has a lot smoother action. Not a fan of thumb studs either. I'm more into performance than hype.
@itsaknifestyle8482
@itsaknifestyle8482 3 жыл бұрын
The difference from the sebenza and a knife like the Baklash is when they were made. The Sebenza is a classic design, Chris Reeve developed the frame lock which many companies use now. CRK has stuck with they same design for years, longer than I’ve been alive. Civivi comes out with a new knife every other week. Also, action doesn’t determine value. You said you more into performance, is the fidget factor of a knife performance to you?|
@ratdad48
@ratdad48 3 жыл бұрын
I did not know the frame lock was developed by Chris reeve. No, fidget factor is not a big deal to me. I have ZT 357. As you know it's spring assist. Maybe performance can be substituted for bargain. Anyway, thanks for the info and I enjoy your videos. Well deliverd.
