CJ McCollum is officially the NBA's Most Improved Player. Given the right opportunity, he has been allowed to flourish after the Trailblazers’ starter's offseason exodus. The Lehigh Mountain Hawk has ALL the moves. Seriously. Zach Lowe called him “the NBA’s Dean Malenko: a man of 1,000 moves. Some guys have a magic crossover, in-and-out dribble, hesitation move or up-and-under around the rim. McCollum has all those at expert level, and he’s uses them to unleash hell from everywhere.” That being said, take note of all the shifty, and savvy manuevers he busts out on his way to the hole. It’s majestic.
Per NBA.com’s stat tracking, he’s in the top 20 in terms of drives per game (with a minimum of 60 games played), just behind John Wall, James Harden, Tony Parker, LeBron James, and Dwyane Wade. I bring that up because he’s got so many creative and crafty tricks to get to the basket. As Zach Lowe says, he has so many different moves, so it’s fascinating to watch his forays to the rim, and equally as exciting is how he can force up, or finesse shots however he needs to. There's one sequence where he attacks off the catch, gets cut off, goes behind the back to change directions, meets a double, splits the defenders, and then goes into another to hang and hit. And1. McCollum is magical.
