I'm unaware of the Dan Marino spike you mentioned, that was before my time. However, I'd suggest you look into the "James Harden Rule" because that's exactly what happened in the NBA. A single person created a rule change.

What the NFL needs to do with the Refs.. every team pretty much has its own group of Refs which does its home games.. those refs should never be doing a game during the playoffs if the team they ref is in the playoffs.. with the game today with the Texans and Chiefs.. any Ref team from a different division and non playoff team should be doing the refereeing.. such as an AFC EAST OR NORTH Ref Team which is NOT in the playoffs should be doing the refereeing on this game.. like the Refs who do Cincinnati or the PATS or the JETS, would be good ref teams to ref this game.. none of them have any skin at all in the results of the game.. none of the teams they ref all year long are in the playoffs.. and its not their division either.. this is how you fix the REF PROBLEM!! The problems that I seen with the Texans today was really poor work in Special teams and the offense, RT Fisher was getting beaten regularly around the outside.. they should ahve put Howard back at RT and moved inside Juice Scruggs.. you had Mason back at RG.. come draft time, this team needs to be drafting offensive linemen.. a WR, RB, and TE.. I do not care if we do not draft a single Defensive player.. fix the Offense, the Defense is NOT the problem.. they play well..
