I'm in my eighties and still love to engine swap. Fortunately, I can do everything and usually by myself. Also have the equipment to do it including a complete shop. What I recommend and always backtrack and make mistakes. Leave everything alone. You don't need the horsepower for that short of wheel base and frame structure. Put in what was in there. I have many CJ2A's and butcher them all. Need a V6 or small block chevrolet have bunches of them some rebuilt and cheap in Southern California.

Not a v-6 buick bell housing! go with the four and put in a overdrive.! Change up your axel gears and you can do 65 mph with the set up.! But in the end, what are you gonna be happy with! Keep all your motor mount pieces you cut off if you go a v-6, you may change your mind!

GM as you mentioned prior. I am keeping the l134 I did acquire a overdrive. I do like the Kubota diesel conversion but stock is for me currently.

The four will out torque the v-6. A odd fire rocks and fibrates more. Parts hard to get. Buick v-6 is a external balance motor, so balancing of the coutch etc. recommended. V-6 will run hotter then the four. Willys is limited in air flow Through grill. You will have to change radiator...remember...a repower needs everything changed...everything in the drive train....if you go v-6 you will find out...research!!! Do Not go v-8!!!!!

L134 is good with me. If I do convert I likely will go Kubota. But I’m rebuilding the l134 with overdrive.

Dude, thats not a buick bell housing. It maybe GM but not Buick. Buick has a dip in the middle between the upmost bolts. A valley sort to speak! wish To could send ya a pic of mine!

Thanks Al. It is a GM I found out after the video was posted. I still have it in storage. You make good points I’ll answer them

Ok......two things.......that little Case tractor is freaking cute as hell, second the Jeep is looking nice and I would put in the four cylinder engine, they are a great little motor.

Hm tough one for me. I like original but also very tempted by the V6. Cant' wait to see the out come either way

im putting a dauntless in my cj2a. spending a ton to have the 70 hp 4 cyl rebiult (and its not original to my jeep) is going to work for me. i love to hear purist complain tho.

Id go with the Buick 225, parts seem easier to get with that than a supersonic, I have a super hurricane engine and looking for a starter alone gives me headaches

Kaiser Willys, Willys America, Walks, Hermes, Jeepsterman, ....etc......go look at their parts!

I swapped a 225 into my cj2a after the L-head went South (smoked like crazy) I would highly recommend the dauntless, it is as close to a drop in conversion as possible, and the extra power is great in the hills and for going at speeds above 45mph The v6 also runs a lot better at higher rpms since it has a much shorter stroke than the L-head. I've found that even when they are running right the L-heads are nothing to brag about power wise, and above 40 or so with the 5.38 gears the poor little engine screamed for mercy. Fuel economy is about the same or a little better with the v6. They weigh about the same, and the v6 sounds a heck of a lot better than the L-head. As far as value goes no matter what you can't make money on a Jeep rebuild. Also if you want to be able to keep up with traffic and drive the Jeep often the v6 would be a much better choice. For a trailer queen that only gets driven once in a blue moon to the auto show the L-head is probably better, although it doesn't have the "cool factor" of an odd-fire v6.

Keep the 4 banger. I had a 1962 willys cj5 with the hurricane L head 4 cylinder. Super reliable and with the low hearing it seems like there is a v8 under the hood! Lol. I bet the v6 would be nice but nothin beats the sweet sound and look of a nice flathead 4 cylinder. But that's just my opinion. The project looks great!

whatever happened to this project? i enjoy your willys videos. give me an update

its still being worked on and have footage to edit. I think its considerably different now. Dana 30 front with disc brakes, dana 44 rear with full float / power lock /disc brakes, dual master cylinder, ford reverse steering, 2.5 lift, 17x9 wheels, etc etc :)
@Wiggy437 жыл бұрын
did you install the buick v6? post another video of it
@ShnitzlHaus7 жыл бұрын
no buick v6, sticking to supersonic for now. I will see what I can do for video, not much to show until I bolt things on the frame. trying to get the last of the body work sorted.

The frame won't handle the v/6

You realize the 225 V6 weighs LESS than the 134 , right??
@richardsmith-io2is10 жыл бұрын
Keep the 4 . Do it up right its not like your gona race the thing
@ShnitzlHaus10 жыл бұрын
thats true but I do want to take it to cool places that are farther away from the city. might put the four in first to see if I am happy enough, it will have a cab for the fall and spring so thats added weight.
@richardsmith-io2is10 жыл бұрын
well think about what you are gona use it for .But i like your idea of putting the 4 in for now and then if your need to do other things then change things then keep up the good work
@scotthogue7175 жыл бұрын
Keep the 4 cylinder.

v6 will lower the value when you go to sell it...if you sold it to me you wouldn't have to make that tough decision :p
@ShnitzlHaus10 жыл бұрын
I dont think I could ever get a good amount back, but you are right. just I plan on keeping this and a v6 would be peppyer and fun. will see.
