Video actually made me sad, I worked at an AMC/Jeep, Pontiac and Cadillac dealership in the late 70s and your shop reminded me of the showroom and car lots of the dealer! CJs were just as hot as Trans Ams in those days so they sold a lot of CJs! spent days working with Jeeps, gassing up, prepping new Jeeps, washing and moving them around, etc. Really miss that old place after these 40+ years. I bought a 2-year-old '77 CJ7 from them with the 304, 3 speed, the heavy-duty suspension package (trailering package-extra leaf springs, thicker radiator and heavy-duty alternator) Hardtop and the 60/40 bench seat! Loved that seat, we four wheeled with 5 on board all the time and it was great with your sweetheart snugged up beside you straddling the shifter. Wish I had the 60/40 seat in my current '80 CJ7 Renegade but I had found a set of N.O.S. bucket seats and back seat new online for it instead as I restored it back to week one condition. I still had my original bikini top, saddle bags and SuperJeep spare tire cover from my'77 and added them to the current '80. Love your video and channel.

I had my 79 CJ5 (built 304, T-150, Dana 44 rear) for 25 years. I loved that thing and you're 100% correct, it would and could get away from you real easy! Mine had factory tilt, dash pad, pwr brakes and steering so it was a rare beast.

Good video! I drove a Jeep when I was in the army from 70 to 72. Then I had a 79 silver anniversary Jeep Renegade with a 304V8 with headers. Then I had a brand new 2002 yellow jeep CJ7. I miss all of them😢

My first Jeep was a 1959 CJ-5. It had the battery compartment on the cowl along with a snorkel opening on the hood with a filler piece in place just like the M38-A1. The previous owner removed the L-Head engine and dropped a 327 with a factory stock 2 BBL carb from a Corvette. Talk about a rocket! I have also owned a stock 1947 CJ-2A and a 1977 CJ-7 with the AMC 304 V-8 with standard three speed. One thing you did not mention was the older Jeeps (flat fenders) could have a heater in them, but NO way to defrost any moisture from the windshield. All the round fender jeeps had pass-through vents built into the windshield that was easy to connect vent hose to and have no vision problems if you have a full top on in the winter with the heater running. I still enjoyed the CJ-2A as my most favorite. But I did like having the defrost that the CJ-5 & CJ-7 had. I sure would enjoy a day in your garage just looking at all those jeeps! Love your vlogs! I did not hesitate to Subscribe and hit the "like" thumbs up!

People had been buying them up for almost 30 years and loved em. Then a story comes out on TV that they're unsafe and roll, and over night they became too dangerous. You'd think if it were true, they would have figured it out at some point over 26 years. Even back then the media was our puppeteer. Crazy. I have a stock 64 and it's my daily driver most the summer, I love it.

@@jaredmiller8740 I agree. The "trust the expert, follow the science" mentality. I'm all about hearing what experts have to say, but I don't go along with it just because they claim to be an expert. Covid was a horrifying reality check of the state of our society. It's so obvious what's happening around the world and how the media is handed a script of what to say and the agenda to push. I love the compilations of every host across all channels saying the exact same phrase verbatim. I can't understand how so many people are totally blind to it. There's some good change happening right now. People are waking up, especially the minorities which thrills me. They've been used as pawns and lied to for too long. I want to see them rise up and be a part of society

Wow man this is one heck of a collection! And my 2001 TJ doesn't like anything above 70 mph so not much has changed over the years. Also my first car was an 84 Renegade that loved to beat the hell out of me when i would drive it on long trips. Better seats only went so far!

In Brazil, we had the Willys Overland version until 1975, when it was taken over by Ford and the engine was replaced by a 4-cylinder. Many enthusiasts kept this version to use on 4x4 trails. Original versions remained in the hands of purists, as was my case. Mine is a civilian with a military body, which was replaced at some point before I acquired it. I'm sorry for my English, but it's because of Google Translate. brasilian hugs. Thank you for sharing your beautiful specimens.

1972 - 1975 Intermediate CJ5s are the best. Toughest, most reliable Jeeps ever built. The transmissions were the toughest, engines were the most powerful for CJ5s . 1 piece rear axle D 44 rear diffs . They are easy to work on and so damn reliable its unbelievable. I have a 74 with over 300k original miles . The 304 is tired but its required just basic maintenance and simple replacement parts like wheel bearings , brakes , shocks , tires etc. Still running the original starter if you can believe that. But I did swap the original Motorola Alternator for a GM 3 wire alternator with a 95 amp rating to help with the warn 8274 winch. But besides normal wear parts its been absolutely as reliable as can be. Its not ever left myself or the original owner ( my grandpa ) stranded at any point. Nor has it been down for any extended period for any reason.I ts never been to a shop besides my home shop . Its just been a rock as far as reliability. And its fantastic as far as off road capability goes. Sure there are jeeps that are more capable but they arent unmodded 1974 tech and have significantly more sophisticated engineering thats gone into them. But for a stock 50 year old vehicle its been amazing and really a blast to drive for myself and before me my grandpa. Its truly been a member of the family . Its been driven half way across the country probably no less than 5 times. And has gone hunting throughout California, Idaho , New Mexico and Colorado. Its still rust and dent free other than a few small dings here and there. I have never been stuck in it and my grandpa told me he had never been stuck or failed to get through or over anything he needed or wanted to off road. I will be going through the running gear this winter freshening up the 304 V8, new synchros and bearings in the T18 trans and new bearings , seals and steering knuckles in diffs. Along with new suspension, re covering the seats and repaint. Not a full restoration but a basic refresh and polish.

I’ve had several, my current toy is a ‘74 304, my only complaint with ‘72 was the darn cable clutch they went to that year, it was a real pain. I ended up welding a bracket onto frame and going to direct mechanical connection like other years. Of course this was back when there was still jeeps at the junk yards for parts.

I’m looking at a ‘78 CJ7 3 speed manual with the 304 that supposedly runs great with no real issues and it is sharp outside paint starting to fade some but not sure if it’s value. They are asking 8k but I don’t know how to find all the specifics on it as I don’t know how or where to get any info from the 13 digit VIN. Any suggestions on how to or at least identify what package and trim it is from factory?

My first was a 78 CJ5 Levis Renegade package, and them a 1983 CJ5 Renegade. My question, i am seeing alot of jeeps fixed up, repainted etc, and there are no "Renegade" graphics. Did Jeep make any jeeps- 1978-1986 CJ5's and CJ7's with no logo's? I always assumed all these CJ5/ CJ7 from these years had Renegade graphics.
@therealjeepguy
@therealjeepguy Жыл бұрын
Most did not have a package but the Renegade and Laredo are the most common packages. Renegade is probably the most common sticker package we see, it was done on the CJ series from 1972 until 1986.

I am restoring a 1966 CJ5. Is this the last year for the Willys tailgate?
@therealjeepguy
@therealjeepguy 11 ай бұрын
As I remember it, the "Willys" stamped tailgate ended in the early 50s. It was then blank for a few years, and then in the early 60s, "Jeep" in lower case was added. Until the tailgate was changed again in 76.
