PixiJS Part 4: Texture Loading

PixiJS is a 2D Graphics Rendering library for the web. In this episode I discuss how to load Textures into the Texture Cache and access them for use in Sprites.
Version 5 was used in this video, but may be compatible with some previous versions as well.

Method chaining on loader does not work for me. I just get "on is not a function". I checked the official docs and did not see any reference to an "on" method so I suspect this had been removed in the latest version. pixijs.download/dev/docs/PIXI.Loader.html

wanted to make an image that has a mask on top which allows a portion of the image to blur on hover. works okay with svg masking but it's heavy on the cpu and completely unusable when there's a list of images. i watched your pixijs videos and started thinking it might solve the performance issues i had but the docs are unfathomable, for me at least.

Same problem as earlier. Getting a TypeError "Cannot read property 'add' of undefined" on the line containing "loader.add".

Aha! I must have missed where you removed "render.renderer(stage);" in the animate function. 🤕

Great video. So we should be using the loader approach because it gives us more control over the normal.. texture.from approach? Thank you, kind of confused because last video you used texture.from and it was much simpler.

Yes use a loader, from is more of a convenience shortcut method.
