Must have been a very wet fall or they have some serious compaction issues. Another remedy could be more tile. Flood the ditches not the fields.

I think with a little more effort you could have found a wetter place to plant maize

Keromero das fressen die Maschinen auf.......kommst du aus der Landwirtschaft ? Weist du wie teuer Mais dieses Jahr ist ? Es lohnt nicht bei solchen Verhältnissen unbedingt jeden ha zu ernten....zumal der Mais recht reichlich ist.
