I remember cleaning my bathroom and the next day I had rice ash all over the top of the tank. The smell got really tiring as did the irritated eyes. Thanks for embracing the mulch method.

Back in 1970-71 I flagged crop dusters in some of those very same fields outside of Richvale. Long...long hours for just a little bit of money. Back then the Ag-Cats had the big radial engines. I recall picking the granular fertilizer out of my hair until I figured a hat might be appropriate. Those were the days.

Use to see a lot of Claas equipment when I worked for Cummins. They have an assembly plant in Walesboro Indiana which I drove past every day. Starting to see quite a bit more of their equipment in fields around here, mostly grass/hay equipment, but that says a lot for them in an area where most farmers bleed either Red or Green!

It seems like I have been harvesting forever. I started with a Massey 90 special in 1956. I would drive while "Pops" took the truck to the barn in a 1946 Dodge. In 2019 I harvested 2000 acres with a 9770 while my son drove the grain cart. Some days we loaded up to 20 semis. Harvest has come a long ways in 64 seasons. Our first grain cart in 1965 held 400 bus now it takes 2 minutes to load a semi.

That 8600 combine is a no messing around machine when it comes to loading the cart besides threshing. My John Deere doing corn takes much more time. I have mine unloading a lot. One acre to fill the hopper and then an additional 1/3 acre before I empty the tank.

The first combine I drove harvested 100,000 lbs in a day. The one I have can do that in just over 40 minutes. I think combines are getting better, in the 62 years I have been driving...this fall I did over 1800 acres as the driver.

About the CAT Lexions. Its actually pretty interesting why they were sold as CAT. In 1999 Claas started a Joint Venture with CAT Challenger, and produced Lexions in the US, and sold and serviced them via the network of CAT Network. Thats why they are branded that way. In return, Claas sold and serviced Challengers in Europe via their network. In 2002, the Challenger brand was sold to AGCO, and Claas took over the Joint-Venture and the manufacturing plant in the US. Then i would assume they slowly transformed the old network of dealerships and such into a claas network, and then sold Claas Products that way. I personally agree with the decision to market them in green/white, looks so much nicer.

Hi from italy! We are used to see the red white and green claas machines even the older challengers. There is a contractor near where i live who has two lexions 760 so i see them work all summer for the peas, wheat, barley, corn and soybean harvest because a average italian farm is 24 acres; is too small for buing a combine or even a big tractor. so contractors are very popular here.

Nice machines and see the appeal, but that makes me wonder what does that mean for the American market on combines, I like the old guy best cause hes been around to see how these changes as nice as they are we get weeded out little at a time and we suffer on ohers somewhere else gain. Just me that what I've seen in my short 50 years, lots of changes and lots of lose for the people on the ground maybe not for those in the skyscraper looking down , just us on the ground, I'm an American and lobe my country and I'm all for supporting my country and it's industries, which support the worker, the family then to the field that support there family to the table where we all eat, God bless our farmers and America. My understanding of Cat & Claus is that in early 2000's when Cat got into farming they needed a combine and partnered with Claus. Then in the 2014's time frame they decided to get out of the farming line of equipment. Thus the Claus name started to appear.
