Beautiful old car, I've owned several of these back in the day. You're a brave guy to take it on. Just doing that interior will cost a fortune, good luck with it. Be nice to see the old girl back on the road. Regards Andrew 👍

Thanks for the encouragement. There's something about the mk10 isn't there! 🙂

Hi there from Sydney, Australia, your litlle bit of surface oxidisation , (wouldn't even call it rust) at the edges of the front footwells is most likely from perished & shrunken front door gully rubbers at the bottom of the wrap around windscreen. When in good nick they were tall , soft & big & shaped to the door when it closed on them , making the water in heavy rain flow forwards & then down the side of the car & away . When the rubbers are hard & have shrunk , they allow water in , it runs over the door , onto the sill rails & then down where you have the oxidisation in the footwells . When new you could pay extra & have carpet on the sill rails , or , you get ambla like on the door upholstery , this is better as does not get dirty from feet scrubbing over it , also the vinyl/ambla does not hold moisture. My mum had a new total option 1971 last of 420G's with the carpeted sills, 8 track player as well as casette player , 4 speakers, heated back window , airconditioning , the lot . I have a 1967 model 420G & it is more basic , no air conditioning , plain AM radio & tape player , & just the vinyl/ambla on the sills. Good luck with your project , these are BEAUTIFUL cars & way , way undervalued , most loonies pay silly amounts for MK2's & when new they were the "poverty" pack Jags were half the price of a MK10/420G & half the car. As the premium car MK10/42G had better steering box & power steer as well, better automatic transmission, better brakes with bigger power booster, and way more power, coupled with a lavish bigger more comfortable Rolls or Bentley class & style interior . But there are some hidden benefits , on very hot days the 4.2 10's & 420g's have better more modern cross flow radiators to keep them running cool , bigger alternators, and all 4.2 litre cars had negative earth electrics , whereas a great many MK2's had unproductive generators , coupled with positive earth electrics , and woeful old style radiators , with their small grill areas allowing Mk2's to over heat on a hot day .
