Well, pain is for a surprisingly large amount a psychological experience. You expect certain things, and become fearful, which enhances the problem. With Claire, none of what she does has a consequence, she won't lose a limb, she won't scar, etc, so that takes that aspect entirely off the table. Then taking into account the rush that comes with the release of pain, and the speed of her regenerative abilities, it's not impossible she became a tad... addicted.

I've always been fascinated with the concept of immortality, especially when I was kid watching superhero/horror shows. Immortality while being seen as both a curse and alittle bit a identity crisis, I often view it as a safety net for the immortal character won't have any fear of death because death itself can't touch them. As result its often shows immortal character in fiction doing something crazy and using their bodies like playable meat 🍖 because they know no matter what they can't die and often the immortality has regeneration mechanics where their bodies regenerate back as if nothing happen to them. Thats why I personally love to see more fictional that has immortality and how they uses it. Ps. I very disappointed to learn that Claire in later the show was killed off and this destroys the concept 💡 of immortality so the writers of the show basically reduced her immortality to simple super-healing and regen.

High pain tolerance. Not to mention, she's been injured so many times in a myriad of gruesome ways that she had surely gotten used to it. By the time of this episode, the one that this clip is from, she can't feel any pain at all whatsoever because there's pretty much no reason for it. She is functionally immortal _(at least up until Heroes: Reborn, but that's beside the point)._ Any injury she suffers from, no matter how severe, will simply repair itself within seconds. Even her entire body could be completely destroyed, and it will still put itself completely back together. Don't believe me? In the fourth episode of the third season, she stands at ground zero of a nuclear explosion caused by another evolved human, and she still survives it. *Even though her body had to have been vaporized.* She still came back from that, and her body still pieced itself together. Absolutely nothing could kill her. Which is, in my opinion, what makes the direction the writers took her character to be so disappointing. Look, I'm not saying she had to be a "badass chick" or whatever, but she didn't have to be so weak-willed all the time, with her only purpose being to get constantly injured left and right. Yeah, she had a few good moments, but there could have been more. They could have shown her actually being a "hero" as the very title of this series suggests. But they didn't. Such a shame, honestly.

Pain and suffering are different. Pain is the electrical nerve stimulus and suffering is governed by how we perceive that pain. For example, if you had a pain in your shoulder, you'd suffer more if you thought it was e.g. a cancerous tumour pressing on a nerve vs if you thought it was caused by a great gym session the day before. The story we tell ourselves about what we're feeling determines our suffering, even if the pain is no different. Part of why we scream when we're in pain is the belief that something catastrophic and permanent is happening to us. But if you know you can heal, like Claire, then it lessens the threat of that pain, meaning less subjective suffering.

I don't think any of that writing was intentional, but they 100% didn't count on the two actors having off the charts chemistry. And they DEFINITELY didn't count on it because Hayden Panitierre was very very much so underage at the time. During filming of season 1, she was only 15-16 years old. Milo is 12 years older than her. They didn't come clean about their relationship until she turned 18 i.e. legal...when he was 30. They were together for a couple of years but...yeah...she was definitely underage and the whole situation was playing with fire, so it wasn't long until the show changed their relationship to a familial one to try and negate all those reports flying around at the time.

I never understood why claire was upset by losing her ability to feel pain. Her power made the fact she could feel pain completely and utterly pointless so really, i'd have thought her not being able to feel pain anymore was a good thing. Allows her to abuse her ability more. Imagine having what is almost like "built in infinite supply of senzu beans" and never developing superhuman strength, speed, etc and considering that power lame. Of course, the same applies to a certain extent to Wolverine, Deadpool and any other character with similar healing powers, except Wolverine and Deadpool developed their...uh...abilities. Just now I thought about how it's totally possible for characters with healing powers to potentially reach Android 16-18 level of melee power. Obviously that would be exclusively through deliberate effort. Hell, even "flying man" (Nathan) could basically be like that Marvel character Canonball.

Why would they make them related? Like when it was revealed it totally ruined the show for me. When they first met it was instant chemistry. I know she was underage irl and on the show at the time but they could have kept it friendly until she turned 18. And would have made save the cheerleader, save the world better and more significant imo as a writer.

It always kinda bothered me how she just hurts herself over and over. Like that can't be healthy for your mind. yes you heal but jesus christ you started committing suicide fast and a lot. But Peter did throw himself off a building to prove he can fly soooo maybe its a family thing XD
