Claire does have that fullness (sort of a Rich darkness) in the lower alto register that Karen had that is so rare and is/was so special. Probably more so than anybody else I have heard that has covered a Carpenter's song.

I recently watched a documentary on PBS about The Carpenters. They’re not really the kind of band that I’d listen to while riding to work or while walking or running outside. So it’s safe for me to say that I’m not a big, mad fan of their style of music. I do enjoy a few songs of theirs from time to time though. They are the kind of band that I have to be in the mood to listen to. But they certainly made a huge mark on the music industry though because of Karen Carpenter’s voice. They had a very unique sound that only belonged to them. A Carpenter song can come up on the radio and you’d be able to immediately recognize that it’s them. They were kind of that band that brought people down into a state of calmness and tranquility in a decade that was dominated by a lot of the upper beat sounds of soul, disco, and funk.
@lesliemoore72945 жыл бұрын
What made them unique was , like Captain and Tenille, they sang all the parts themselves instead of using background vocalists.

Holy crap!!!! Turn away and you'd never know it was not Karen. Wow!!!!! 😍

Probably been the first time she'd sang live in her career at this point. Steps were forced to mime everything. I saw Claire do her solo album launch a few years ago, and she was 10 times better live.

Sorry but this girl is struggling through the whole verses. She lacks the lower register that Karen had. I'm surprised so many people are raving about this performance. Brave though.
@hiseagle4 жыл бұрын
Not KC, of course. I've been listening to the Carpenters since 1971, so I wasn't a fan of how she sang this, as it's one of my favorite Carpenters songs. Too many people try to copy the way Karen hit the notes perfectly, as well as her tone and other nuances too much, and they always fail of course. Karen was the greatest female artist in recorded music history. It's basically impossible to match her. But this woman has a pretty voice, though I feel she'd be more suited for doing Carpenters songs at weddings.
@desertrose12264 жыл бұрын
You're right, many try and copy her too much, I can sing a little like her, but I am never as good, and I know it!! Her voice is near-impossible to recreate.
@scottiramage3174 жыл бұрын
I suggest you google Claire Richards - she’s a recording artist in her own right
@hiseagle4 жыл бұрын
@@scottiramage317 I have no need to Google her. She may be a recording artist in her own right, as you say, but no female singer can match Karen Carpenter's voice. Period.

All over the place and that's with autotune! shows the difference between someone with talent and someone who is a mediocre. This is just Richards singing (poorly) a classic carpenters song, sounds nothing like KC, pure Karaoke.

Karen Carpenter died as a direct result from an eating disorder, bought on by idiots like you telling her she was too fat. Nice to see the cycle never ends. Moron
@theboyjames30652 жыл бұрын
Is that really necessary, particularly considering Karen died of heart failure brought on by her long struggle with anorexia?
