They'll take a pencil just fine. The paper is very smooth, so just be aware of that. It'll feel a little slippery compared to most other papers.

Love your videos, thanks for uploading them. I've purchased both these brands (in my many Goulet orders, lol) and agree with you--I prefer the Clairefontaine for its smoothness. The notebooks also have very attractive covers.. One plus for the Rhodia, however, is that the pads are micro-perforated so the pages can be easily torn out if needed. If Clairefontaine would offer a small pocket notebook or pad that was perforated, that would be perfection!

Thank you. My son got me a Tomoe journal and a Clairefontaine journal so I can decide which I like best although I'm pretty sure both will be nice. I haven't used them yet as they are a Christmas gift. Hurry up, Christmas!

Yeah, they're both pretty similar...there are some subtle differences but they're both pretty much the standard for fountain pens.

Do they take a pencil well? I often take good notes in pen, and then switch to a pencil to do calculations on the same page.

Both are great, but I prefer Rhodia because Clairefontaine is glassier and tends to cause more hard starts.
