Clam X-600 Setup & Hacks: Gym Mat Flooring, Light Kit Install, & Must-Have Accessories!

Nice! I bought an X-600 Clam hub last year, we just absolutely love it! Earlier model so we used the Aurora lighting from Clam and velcroed them on the top rods, used two kits which will run 8.5 hours on a 15AH Amped Outdoors lithium battery. Could not be more pleased. Bought a Garmin livescope this season and we've just had a fabulous season so far here in Colorado. So grateful for the privilege of fishing with friends, and the challenge of all of the strategy in fishing. By the way, really glad we got the X-600, not the X-400. Yes it is big and really heavy, but we usually have 3-5 people and this tent works great! Highly recommend Clam, they make an excellent product!

Keith, sounds like you’ve got your setup dialed in! I have been extremely pleased with the x600 and the clam hub accessories have been amazing! Have you found any other products/ accessories that have improved your hardwater experience?

@ we really like the little Clam shelf’s with cupholder and magnet with a place for pliers and what not. We have two of those. We do not want to put a rod holder on the tent, but are just now deciding that we want to put the clam rod holder attached to a clam milk crate. I’ve been fishing with some small 13 fishing rods and drop reels and the rods have a very short butt and and don’t fit in rod holders as well, so I’m hoping it will fit in the clam Rod holder attached to the crate. That would be just right. For many years, we’ve used buckets to hold our things and they just don’t work as well as those milk crates. Currently we have one milk crate and this week we are going to buy two more and then additionally clam makes a larger milk. crate that will fit the jaw jacker and tip ups in.

@@edbrown3047 I would imagine you should have some great early ice soon! Yesterday was the first of the season for me and I managed to pull in some blue gill and pike. Any target species that you go for?

I fish the Red frequently and have pulled out some pigs, but can say that I have never pulled a cat through an ice hole lol! I will have to add that to the list!

Sure does! It has two built-in mesh storage compartments above both entrances.

Dan, the best option that I have seen is the gym mat flooring; they're lightweight, provide good insulation, and can be arranged to fit your shelter's layout. Plus, they're easy to pack up and transport. Have you seen any other alternatives?

Some build some sort of wooden floor. But most people will use a gym mat. I bought half inch for my flip over. But for ice camping it's recommended to get 3/4 or 1 inch.

I have seen some pretty awesome sled house builds with wooden floors! Do you recommend the thicker matting for increased insulation?

@FrozenLinesOutdoors yes. And also leave a small layer of snow under the mats for extended stays. Itll help prevent the slushy wet spots

Clam made a few years back an insulated floor for the x600, so I figured that after I bought the folds of honor x600 hub 2 days ago I'd start looking for a floor. We'll I called clam today 12/2/24 and they said it's been discontinued. The guy I talked to says they have a new concept/ model, coming next year or the year after. But if anyone is interested in checking out that older style floor there's some videos on here, search x600 ice camping, things like that. Thank you for the video. I think alot of people out their would like a good floor video, I sure would.
