Dude the little girl died. When he said 2 and 1 out, her parents survived while her spirit crossed into purgatory. She didn't know she died, because she was being cared for by kinda of like, her replacement parents. Sadly, she kept dreaming of the nightmarish end of her life. Her dad's friend was gently trying to help her realize that she had passed away, while the counselor lady turned out to be a demon, holding Eve back from regaining her memories. (Probably because once she realizes the truth, then she would most likely cross over to heaven, which might be why she got so upset when Eve started catching on. It IS a demon's job to turn souls away from the almighty God.) But she was saved by her protective, no longer suspect, replacement dad. At the end he said her _Real_ parents where sadly speaking with a reporter after the car went up in flames. Her mom is devastated-crying, while her dad is saying that they don't have the power to change things, that it has to be way. When Eve closed her eyes again and goes to sleep, she..

This is REALLY complicated, and I spent some time analyzing it but I only have speculation. There are many red herrings and references to time, space, disaster, memory, dreams, and more. I'll state my opinion, but there's a lot of missing info regarding the girl from Maryland that would really clear things up. 1. The monster house is not in Jacksonville, that's a total red herring. That's where she is found by normal people after having been with the man and woman. 2. There is only one Eve, but she exists at different times and in different realities. She's also very likely already dead in some sense of the word just like the man and woman. This would explain why only one set of fingerprints exists... if that's even the case, as that scene in the police station was vague. 3. ThreeTwoOne is also Eve, likely after having become savvy with the internet, sending messages to herself. The past messages existed before she was found, with only the message being sent from a deleted account occurring concurrently with another Eve. At that time though, Eve immediately left and entered a separate reality. 4. There is a time loop of sorts happening, where memory gets distorted and she knows things at different times, but in theory always has the burn scars. 5. The monster in the house is also Eve, possibly her third form, which I believe to be the case because of the references regarding god and time. Since both Eve and the monster exist outside or around time, they might effectively be the same thing. The monster is her, just stretched and distorted, a woman in a dress, possibly her future potential self. Not a lot of evidence for this one. Hypothetical conclusion....... It's not clear if she was burned in the car or burned in the house, but if I had to guess, she's kidnapped then burned in the car, appears in Jacksonville 6 years later, some years pass, she replaces another Eve and is stuck in the house, the monster might actually REMOVE the scars, she then is replaced later on and appears roughly 4-6 years in the past from when she went in, sent the messages and lived with these "parents" then disappeared again later on when she becomes part of the house... this idea has so many holes in it, and seems to ignore what the shoes or clothes represent as a major theme. But, again, there's a lot of red herrings and missing details, so it's hard to say.

Is she reborn every day, like Kenny from southpark? She keeps dying and coming back to find out that she disappeared with no trace and every time she comes back to find her parents waiting for her but things change like how she grew up, she remembers how things were before...or in another place. She doesn't recognize the computer or things on the internet...she seems amazed by having a new computer and doesn't recognize it. Is she having night terrors and she wanders away and gets hurt, then comes back later?

Okay so let me see if I can crack this code... lol... first thing she remembers is opening her eyes in the car. She is taken to a house where she sees her future self being found only because her parents took her there to begin with. She is taken there to prevent something that she could make happen with time and space. The Creature she sees is actually something from her nightmares that she turns to to cope with whats going on but because she is not in a Set time and place it becomes erratic and distorted. She is constantly questioning herself. okay now her self that has been found...Not having nightmares per-say but rather creating changes or events in her mind due to all the confusion she has gone through. Because she is constantly questioning herself and fighting herself and way too young to understand what she is capable of it turns in to possibilities of actually happening. The link to Cult activities tells me that maybe they thought they were bringing the Messiah back in her just how some cults believe they can conjure a demon...or what ever her parents believed in they brought something back and its now a danger to humanity or time it's self. Now I'm gonna skip right to the end.. Shes so confused but seems to realize that 321 is also possibly herself in some other time line. I know confusing but brilliant if that is the case. So She sends herself to the woods to stop herself from bringing her dreams to life. Destruction of the world or war, both seemed like it was possible. So she realizes at the moment she sees the car pass that she is in a time bubble, she is seeing the past, present and future all at once and wishes to go back and make everything better or wishes to stop all the confusion. She then opens her eyes and finds herself right back where it all began for her, in the car. Yes She is stuck in a time loop and will probably never get out of it because if she did it could mean the destruction of the human race. I hope I at least got close to what this story is about if not... hey I could write my own thriller!

Don’t forgot about the mention of the cult stuff, the article about the car accident, the other girl that was kidnapped, her dreams about New York being devastated by some sort of giant wave, how her dad avoids her, her scars that look like burns, seeing the stars that are all wrong, the mention of the Indians being killed for the land behind her house, the crazy long fingers that are mentioned in Wayne & whatever she was locked in that house with & I could probably name a few other confusing details that were thrown into the mix 🤷🏻‍♀️ I have no idea about any of it

I put this up elsewhere too, but did you catch that her name isn’t Eve? At least it isn’t everywhere. Under the stars she’s talking about hearing her name and all it’s syllables (plural), rather than just the single syllable in Eve. So maybe from another world? God I want there to be more, though of course more could lead to a colossal letdown. Haha

But it did make me wonder if the user name “3,2,1” is some sort of hypnosis she’s undergoing. I feel this has something to do with gris-gris or something otherworldly. The story mentions a lot of negative events tied to the woods, and being that this girl has powers or something. She could be going into the woods, go missing, find a way back, and repeat over and over again. With all the nightmares and dreams of hers being a blurred line between what is in the woods and what is outside. The car crash she was probably burned in with her parents dying I take it caused her to be adopted by Tom and his wife. The FBI dude probably is attempting to figure out exactly how this girl can do what she does. Meaning he knows more then he is letting on. Maybe he is the black figure?

It's in first person of a girl who lives life in her own perspective of time or in other words times it self is either nonexistent or just nonlinear. So from our point of view (in the clutches of time) we will never comprehend it. All in all great job!!!

I think the story is kind of told backwards.. the beginning actually happens after the last scene. And all the dreams and details inbetween just tell you what happened.. only issue is her ages because they say she was missing at 1. But she says the girl who looks like her is 8 years old. Also, when the scene of what the parents saw the morning that they discovered her gone was described they say an open window and something about a breeze. Well, at the end she says she jumped out her window and the curtains were blowing in & out, which tells me she left the window open. The age thing doesn't jibe w that unless they lied about her original disappearance at 1? And had her hidden? And they started to realize she remembered too much, and had to silence her (the dad's 'friend' saying it had to be this way) These are allbroken lines of thought though.. I hate when stories are good but have zero payoff at the end, fml.

I usually have no problems with your stories ,they are well written and flow like a river . This 1 however was different . How many Eves were there, how many different lives did she leave? It always seemed like Eve was running away from 1 family only to hook up with another one. I don't know , it's getting late so maybe I ought to read it in the morning when I'm a little more alert. I dont think there is a right way or wrong way to this. I think its the kind of story that you take from it your own interpretation I noticed she had the name of the 1st woman created for Adam the 1st man. So it could be about the male & female principle of the ALL. However as Lillith was actually Adams 1st wife & a Demi Goddess & refused to lie under him & be dominated by him so she chucked over, left him for pastures new & so Adam got a doormat called Eve ....or thought he did.. Not trying to complicate stuff just tossing a few things around in my mind. Think basically it was one of 2 things. 1) the 1st Eve was in covert government experiment to swap her with her doppleganger from another dimention & unless she was returned the other dimention would start war on our dimention 2) they were born twins, separated at birth but both called Eve, one Eve to poor parents, the other Eve to rich mummy & Daddy. Each child monitored thoughly as in Nature vs Nurture ( these experiments really happened via adoption agencies secretly government run. For proof see the story of The 3 Strangers & The Louise West Adoption Agency) Then from birth to say 12 yrs old the experiment required the 2 Eves to be swapped over, ie the poor Eve given to the rich family & vise versa. Im just surmising.. I doubt anyone will be reading this anyway since its 2 yrs since it was uploaded. Well for what its worth, those are my 2 senarios that came to me as listened to this. Not my cup of tea, its not an entertaining story & maybe only a philosopher would appreciate it.

dude, I love listening to you, though I only just started yesterday. a lot of folks seem to be confused about this story, and I must say I am one of them. I did not scroll to the bottom, but no one seams to have an explanation. here is what I got, and it aint much. 1. the girl was kidnapped, and raised by a couple who seam to have her as a replacement for their missing girl. they seam to have traded her for their doter, though I can not figure out to whom. 2. the father seams to have ties to the occult, and is planning some sort of war... or is counting on a war of some sort... i think. I also think that his doter has something to do with this conflict... not sure what though. 3. Wayne and her mom totally boinked. the dad knows, but they seam to still be friends, or at least colleges. not sure if they are both cultists, but the comment at the end suggests that to me. that is what I got, as sure as I can figure. this story is a hot mess of time jumps. that last scene seamed the most surreal part. almost as if she is a god, or dimension jumper or something. any how, if anyone else can pull plot assurities out of this quagmire of what, let me know.

The other Eve I can only guess is a twin with similar abilities only one adopted the other in the shadows. And also a backup but there is some confusion in alot of the story.

To me I got a extraterrestrial/ interdimensional maybe even time travel vibe. Especially the end (clearing circle of trees, being given coordinates, hearing some sort of engine, the significance of the stars changing) maybe the person observing was MIB? . That's the vibe I got off of Wayne. Her drawings may have been events yet to come and the girl identical to her was one of her kind? She was taken from her room at night in the beginning and has little memory . There are things that muck up this theory a bit though.

Your narration was great Clancy, as usual, but the story suffers from what I call The Phantasm Effect. There's a fine line between clever vagueness and deliberate obtuseness, and I've got a feeling this story is obtuse just for the sake of it. The ending blends perfectly with the beginning. That combined with the whole “Time is a circle”thing.. Is a time loop possible? As if she’s reliving the past physically or in her memories? Or maybe her other self has a mind connected to hers? No matter what way too many things were unanswered and the story had no climax. I think the saying “Death to the author!” (Not literally) fits here.

My guess on this is, that she was abducted by people, putting her under mind control, waiting for the time to bring her back to her parents (maybe planned by her father for publicity). But the last part sounded much more like an Alien abductee being called back to the place they were once picked up. The "thing" could also have been alien. Wayne was obviously some kind of "Man in black". I was waiting for a clear ending, but it left me all confused..

Not a big deal, but just for anyone who cares: There are two types of lies. Commission (saying that a blue pen is actually red) and omission (only telling part of the story and leaving out details on purpose). She actually does lie to the therapist. ;)

The story is too confusing. Once I thought I had it figured out....I was wrong! Too many twist, turns, and characters that turned out to not have anything to do with the ending. I'm sorry I just didn't get it. I'm still a big fan!

Lol I hope there's another part that puts the pieces together BC I'm feeing like I'm a wee bit slow. It looks like most people didn't understand the logic of this story. I actually somewhat understand it. This is a vaguely "postcolonial" story about the concept of specific racial groups of people not being able to remember history - you can think of it as "their" group history, or the effect of a single shared world history on them. It's said, in relation to individual human beings, that even when you forget trauma the body remembers. [*] So essentially, Eve notes that any number of Black children go missing in the United States and nobody cares about it, but in this case they are all getting caught up in this weird anomaly where people are somehow thrown out of the flow of time toward a liminal space characterized as being like a place between days (midnight) or even a place between eras. The anomaly is associated with the concept of how various atrocious things have happened in history, various groups of people have been in deadly wars against each other and massacred each other, and while time goes on those atrocities still become irrevocably woven into reality because they happened, so in a way it's like the moment never ended even though it did. The story phrases this concept a little confusingly by saying that the past is joined to the present in "a circle". But this is what midnight is. It is some kind of depression dimension you go to when nobody cares about you and nobody will understand what is happening to you, and apparently demon-like primordial horrors exist there or something, and you can fully enter the midnight space at some particular area in the woods. It may have always existed beneath what the people of the United States think is real to erupt across every era, but now Eve (re)discovered it and is part of it. I think but am not sure this story is a meditation on some phrase like "Black people are without history" and taking it really really literally so that Eve is quite literally pushed out of history in a paranormal cosmic way. It's a genius premise honestly. The only thing that confuses me about this story is how many entities Eve is and why there are so many of her. Eve's trauma makes sense, but where did multiple Eves come from? It does feel like there was meant to be another part to the story or some pieces were cut out. [*] "The Body Remembers" was also the title of a whole non-fiction book about the topic.

Great reading I think I get the story, occult, apocalypse prevention, secret child, secret agent, alternative realities maybe. But seriously, shopping around is an interesting way to tell the story but give the audience some directions like when she had the nightmare and accidentally kicked her dad, that made sense. The whole midnight thing made very little sense.

So here's what I gathered (after watching once).. ^^ The girl's name was Eve.. ^^ Eve is black.. adopted by White parents.. ^^ Eve is a smart girl, considering how she never encountered the internet before, yet being able to use the mother's computer (without mentioning the hard time understanding it), faking research and being able to find (very suspicious) threads relating to the research of her past, and understanding the concept of browsing history.. ^^ Eve's dad is a politician.. ^^ Eve's Mom is having an affair with Wayne.. ^^ Eve's been missing for a certain amount of years living with two people (who are presumably her abductors).. on a trailer, and moving from place to place.. ^^ At some point, the abductors, took her to a house in the middle of the forest (that might be in or near the original parents' backyard).. There she found a girl, chained to the wall, who has the same name as her.. Her father abductor, then released the other girl and chained Eve instead.. ^^ Then she was found by the police through an anonymous tip of a random user's comment on social media.. ^^ The other girl, and the two abductors was then found dead in their car (or trailer) burned (or exploded) to death.. Their features were left unrecognizable from the damage.. ^^ Eve returns to the family, and does research herself on their computer.. While avoiding questions from Ms. Quinn (her therapist).. ^^ It was "always Midnight" because the house is located inside the forest.. ^^ The unrecognizable constellations are actually what little light can only pass through the trees.. This tells how deep in the forest the location is.. This means that the place is always dark (even if its in the middle of the day), and only dots of lights passes through the trees, which looks like constellations.. ^^ If however, Eve's Dad is in on the abduction thing, he really did a good job of erasing evidence by killing the abductors through the car explosion.. ^^ Ms. Quinn's desperate attempts on questioning Eve despite the child being traumatized, is her way of investigating the parents' involvement in the abduction.. This was found out later by the parents, so they had Ms. Quinn court-martialed or something.. This was mentioned at the start of the story.. ^^ Since Ms. Quinn can't do Eve's therapy sessions anymore, they hired Wayne instead.. ^^ I also believe that Wayne is on secret service and acts the "Cleaner" or "Dirty-Job Man" of the family.. The death of the abductors might have been his handy work.. I don't know about the diet thing though.. Maybe it was a way to test Eve's mental state.. My questions are as follows: ^^ Why did the other girl say "Good luck" to Eve when the exchanged happened?? ^^ Why doesn't Eve remember anything else?? >> The answer was, the exchange and being in chains happened at the start of the abduction and most of the years that passed was inside the house, where Eve was being kept and drugged.. >> The scary entity was the person tasked of taking care of Eve whilst she was drugged.. Her vision was blurry because of the drug, which caused her to perceive the person as a scary entity.. This person is what I believe to be also a girl kidnapped before her and who was not saved by her parents; this is why she called the place "always midnight", because she is also a child (a little bit older) and not an adult person.. ^^ Why did she came back to the abduction house?? >> I think she wanted to confirm if the abduction scheme was over, or that she wanted to save the other girl who was with her.. But seeing the "red eye" in the dark, means a cigarette is being lighted again.. and a car droves into the forest.. She closes and opens her eyes.. The Abduction Scheme is still happening, and she's made up her mind to stop it.. My theories on Eve's abduction: ^^ Parallel worlds - the reason she can't remember anything (and remembers Earthquakes, and the Statue of Liberty being flooded) and having a girl look just like her, means she is another version of herself.. But the news articles and dreams later disproved this theory.. ^^ She is being subjected to a cult ceremony and is being sacrificed.. I don't think this is the case since the abduction took years and she clearly remembers moving from one place to another.. ^^ She was kidnapped by a political rival.. (1) To get revenge on the father.. (2) To have the other girl replace her with the purpose of spying on the family.. This might be plausible.. The only question left for me is: ^^ Who is the random user who tipped off the police?? Is this one of the abductors?? ^^ Who is user 321 then?? Is this the same person from before?? Why does this guy know about the Abduction Scheme?? ^^ How much does he really know??
