+7animeaddict With Angel Beats, I felt like a lot of the "sad moments" were forced on us. The only scene I did shed a tear to was the girl who was paralyzed and watched TV. Overall, I felt more emotionally numb and it made me sad. But with Clannad, however, I cried so hard especially in After Story!

I’m a lot like Nagisa. I have a chronic illness that caused me to miss a ton of school. Though I ended up having to drop out because of it. I’m going to get my GED soon and every time I hear this song, I just imagine walking out of the building after receiving it and seeing all my old friends and teachers waiting there for me. I know it won’t happen, but imagining it always makes me tear up anyway. It’s been such a long and hard road. I want them all to know I made it, despite everything against me. I went to their graduation, and it was kind of hard seeing them all graduate when I didn’t. They all looked so happy. But I’m proud of them. I hope someday I can live up to that too, even if no one is around to see it. UPDATE 2 YEARS LATER: I did end up getting my GED!!! How it actually went down was much more emotional for me. I had a fever the day of the test, and after I finished, I went to the school bathroom and sobbed while I waited for my mom to pick me up. I was just so happy I was done, and so overwhelmed. I ended up getting one of the highest percentages in the country though so that’s pretty good. I never walked the floor, I just wanted to get my GED and be done with it. I’m doing a lot better health wise now! Still sick, but I can do more things in a day than I use to be able to. It’s nice to see how far I’ve come from then. Thank you everyone for your kind comments ❤️

Well the first season is more akin to a regular slice of life. It's job is to establish the setting, give the characters some growth, and give way to the second season. In the respect you can't really compare the two, even though they are technically related, you need to view the first as a high school SoL, and the second as a melodrama SoL.

I rewatch Clannad every year on my birthday to help me remember how great the anime was and to remember someone who was very dear to me. I treasure this anime due to how it was the first anime that my older sister recommended to me. We never got along that well, but back then, I’ll go to her room sometimes and I’ll just talk to her about some small things. I’m turning 17 this year and she’s supposed to be 19. She recommended this anime to when I was 11 or 12; she never got the time finish it, nor did she have the time to achieve her goals in life in such a short time of 15 years. I’ll miss her, and now I’m in her place as an older sister to two of my younger sisters, I’ll recommend them to watch this anime when they’re old enough. I’m not asking for pity, nor am I asking for prayers and such, I just want people to cherish their times with the people they love and care for. I don’t have the power nor luck that Tomoya had to bring back Nagisa, so I can’t bring my sister back to spend time with her, but I’ll remember her through this anime each year. ^-^❤️

This anime will always remain number 1 for me. Nothing will ever beat it because of what it's done for me personally. My outlook on life has changed completely. As if color has suddenly been added to my life. I have something to work hard towards. I have something to FIGHT for. And that something is to one day raise a family and reach a happiness like none other. If it weren't for this anime, I wouldn't even have realized the happiness that could be found in having a child. And of course, I am ready to face the hardships that come with it. I don't know how I will handle it all, but I do know that in this seemingly cruel life, there is something to reach for. I can't wait for the day I can hold the hand of my child and share tears of happiness with my significant other. Words seriously cannot describe the feeling that burns inside my heart. The best way to put it is that my heart is now that 'Shining in the Sky' Ushio Love

Asoranth That is exactly how I feel. It's been weeks since I watched After Story and this whole time I've been trying to describe and understand what it was that I felt. Something unknown had appeared in me and I didn't know how to express it, other than with the tears that make their way down my face when I listen to the music from Clannad. You managed to express it through words very well. Just like yours, my soul is burning, and I too now feel like I have something to fight for. For years I've been sad for the same reasons Tomoya was before he met Nagisa. The sadness of repetition in life. This is where the majority of my own sadness comes from- it's not because my life sucks or anything, it's because life can get so dull to the point where I feel like I can't stand it. However, now I have something to work hard towards. Now I have a real reason to live!

Slice of life.... I am growing older, wiser, more experienced, Clannad is still a good memory of entertainment I had a few years ago, as it depicts several topics of young adulthood and beyond. 😊
@kieransmith36698 жыл бұрын
I think Clannad is a stepping stone to the 'Slice of Life' genre for a lot of people because of it. Most people get into anime through the more renowned 'Action' animes like Bleach, Naruto, DBZ etc... Due to that, a lot of anime watchers will overlook the 'Slice of Life' genre because it appears boring in comparison. But then when you see a tile pop up as much as Clannad does, it's mentioned on every forum, page and/or wall that has anything to do with anime, you can't help but wonder why it's brought up so much... Then you watch it and start to question the sanity of the humans that willingly watch this knowing full well what it entails. Watching Clannad was kind of a life changing experience for me, at least in the sense that it really put's things into (somewhat of a) perspective for me. To expand on what you said Kevin, the older and wiser you get, the more you find yourself appreciating all the things that you ran straight past as a kid. You find yourself holding on to the oldest things because you're afraid to let go of who you were to make room for who you can and will be. It's an inevitable inner conflict that's just part of growing up. Clannad taught me that it's okay to let go because it doesn't always mean it's gone, it just means it's become part of you in a different way. A memory. An experience. A lesson. An opportunity... A new chapter. *applause* Thank you all for coming! You've been a great audience. Tune in next week when I talk about how watching Naruto made me steal my best friend's eye-ball!
@Inuyashapwns118 жыл бұрын
I personally have found that as I've gotten older, I've preferred the 'Slice of Life' animes as opposed to the 'Action' animes that I watched as a kid (Naruto, Inuyasha, etc). I'm not sure when the switch happened for me, but I can say that Clannad also had that kind of impact on me as it was the first real 'Slice of Life' I watched all the way through. Clannad and Your Lie in April have had such an impact on my life that I find it difficult to watch them again because of how much they've affected me personally and emotionally, which is kind of sad because I would love to watch them again, but I started the first episode and legit cried in the first 10 minutes. I hope that everyone had a similar feeling coming off this show...

My cat just died, I was taking care of him for 4 years. My mom and me kept having huge fights in the house because of major family problems, whenever I was in these insanely rough sessions in my life he always came and layed onto my desk and just slept there purring as loud as he could, then when I scratched his ears he just letted out a deep sounding "mrrreeeeow" then just turned onto his back... Whatever part you are in your life, memories will never fade and they will be always living there. Watching anime like clannad makes it easier trying to move on.

These comments. THESE comments give me faith in humanity. People all coming together and loving something that really touched our hearts and souls. It's something truly outstanding. You might call me a dreamer... But I'm not the only one.

I feel exactly the same. Sometimes I lose faith in humanity when I hear about the war, terrorism, discrimination, bullying, greed, senseless violence... I get harassed by trolls in KZbin comments who just want to argue and make others feel bad... But when I see something like this... It reminds me that humans are capable of so much more... That we can all come together, no matter where we're from, what religious or cultural backgrounds we have, or even different political beliefs... We're all capable of feeling... Of loving. We all have emotions, our hears and our souls connect us in ways that the physical differences could never divide us. If only people could hold onto these feelings and carry them in their hearts wherever they go... How could anyone ever harm another soul again if we all felt united as one?

@@ShizuruNakatsu I'm really glad that there's people out there who share my love of the world, and it's people. I'm not talking about hippy stuff here, I'm talking basic stuff that makes us human. Kindness, respect, understanding... And also things like culture, food, nature... These things connect us and give us the chance to tell stories. People aren't so bad, or most of us aren't. Sure, there's some messed up things in the world, and that's horrible, but a majority of us are normal (whatever that means). I for one love the world, okay? It's not hard to open your eyes and appreciate life, although, I do understand that it's not that simple for some people. We should all stop to think about little things in life, as well as learn the value of compassion and respect. Thanks for responding all this time later, I know people understand what I'm talking about, but many don't want to admit it, or choose to not notice. That's on them, more for us to enjoy!

Spoilers That moment when nagisa passed away... it didnt register for me. Its like one of those moments where you refuse to accept the weight of the matter, the reality. It was after seeing tomoya breaking down that it hits me: shes gone. The character who we love and supports. Shes gone. And then cones the tear jerking episodes that were 18 and 19 (if im not mistakened) that really hit the sore spot. I dont typically cry to much, but this- this made me bawl. It was painful. It was raw emotions. I dont think i could ever find an anime as tear jerking as this. Thank you, kyoani.

For me Ushio calling Tomoya Daddy for the first time and their death in the snow tore me apart. I'm also not a very emotional person I barely tear up from watching your name or silent voice but Clannad got me for good. TBH it's way intense than Anohana and GOTFF imo.

I finished this about a month ago and it hurt BAD. Fuko's story pulled a few tears out of me, but Nagisa's passing was... devastating to say the least. I kinda put myself in Tomoya's shoes at that moment, all the memories coming back at once. I cried harder than when I watched YLIA, but Clannad kept it going with even more heart punches. Almost any time they brought up Nagisa in memory, I felt Tomoya's pain. That train scene where he finally allowed himself to remember... allowed himself to say her name once more... I didn't know I could shed that many tears in a span of a day or two 😂. Even the scene with the father, just UGH. Sad to think I was once iffy on watching it, but when I heard Kyoto made it, I had to see. If not for my respect they earned with Violet Evergarden, then because of beauty of animation and storytelling that they never slack on. I

I would say that Clannad after story has zero rewatchable ability and you'd ask me why? Because the first time anyone really sits down to watch after story, going through all the painful moments with Tomoya Ushio and Nagisa along with a soundtrack created so masterfully that words can't describe it you feel as if your being torn apart only to be reconnected at the very end. After story is an experience which hits you in the moment and doesn't require a second viewing or even a serious breakdown of events as has become the norm these days and i can only say thankyou to the creators for allowing me to enjoy the experience

The story of tomoya and his father was one of the most emotional parts for me, especially when his dad realised he could go and had done enough. My relationship with my father can be rocky and on and off, but he reminds me of tomoyas dad where he tried with gifts and stuff where he could. My dad did that with lollies/candy too. Plus he looks like my dad so much too. I cried when his grandma made tomoya realise his dad loves him.

I listened this song on spotify like 2 weeks ago, and now it played again from my recommendations, i couldn't figure why i was on the verge of tears. Today i just google it, just for remember why i feel so sad about it. Then i remembered this anime, i was a teenager when i watched this and i loved the story. About that time i really "clicked" with Tomoya, because i had a bad relationship with my dad and i wished for some kind of connection or meeting that would change my life or my view of life. Like 8 years have pass and that relationship had rotten, but i'm happy with it. I learned to let go and appreciate my friends and my brother, so even if i can't repair that. That broken relationship gave me the chance to open to my friends and to just talk with my brother, who was in the "same place" as me.

Growing up my father was pretty much emotionally unavailable and not fully present resulting in a lot of emotional baggage on me. It’s a burden that’s become part of my life in spite of that I still loved him. His mistakes as a parent took a toll on me yet I still loved and appreciated him for his efforts. I’m now 24 and with a child, he passed away earlier this year. I’m at the point that I don’t know how to deal with all the hurt he caused and hearing this song just reminds me of how much I once yearned for a happy family. He is missed greatly

It made me think over life : We start as a kid , We go to school , With the changing time we think we need to change the things they are , We grow , We go to collage , We get married , We start our new life and when our children goes far from us our life's stuck and when we are nearby to death, at that time we look back and think what have been left behind by us . At first we hate it but deep down we know that what happend to the things and the place all have been done by us , then we realise that our life was just as bad as this change was for someone else. If only i had one more chance i would have loved to became a student again and enjoy all the happiness by friendship and love again. Being a children was the best part of my life , i m going to miss this too much. 😭😭😭

Ben Corbett It's a different kind of emotion than Clannad. Many people have been disappointed. I watched it before Clannad and it was the first anime to make me legit cry. Like, other shows got me to tear up, but the feeling was circumstantial and faded pretty quickly. Angel Beats was the first for me that really stirred something on the inside. It made me cry both times I watched it, and the second time was only later that week. Dubbed and Subbed (which one is right for you is a different discussion altogether). I still highly recommend Angel Beats, but don't be expecting the same flavor of emotion as Clannad, because you'll be disappointed by the difference.
