This is fantastic! I never knew the Byrds played with Fats Domino. You could make a good case for Fats as the first rock star. And Clarence White is amazing here. He makes it look so easy: hardly moves his fingers and hands while he's playing difficult yet totally on-the-money notes. What a giant he was.

How great. I saw the Byrds in 1971 and Fats Domino a few years later in a club with about 100 people. Two of the greatest shows I've ever seen. Clarence White and Fats Domino were gods.

Definitely Clarence was a God in many ways. His humor, kindness, and talent literally saved my life when I was in a deep depression. That was a long, long time ago and I still mourn his loss.

Clarence White could cover all the bases rock and roll country and bluegrass. He was a master at Bluegrass flatpicking none of the other Rockers are Blues players could ever come close. The man was amazing

Clarence was a true pro. Usually, he cranked up and tore that B bender all over the place, but with Fats, he turned down and kept it simple with chords and simple riffs. A true musician knows how to do that.

Yea he bought from his sister. She only asked 800 for it a grand at the most and Marty being the greaser d bag he is took it. He should of paid off her house for her. It was at least worth that and then some. Could be auctioned for lord knows ho much now and he didn’t get it that long ago, Within the last 15 yrs prob. Hell even it was 30 yrs ago.

Son! I was a boy 11 years old and my mom talked me into calling Atoine Domino in New Orleans and telling him I was influenced by him. To my surprise he answered the phone and indulged this kid and was so gentle and sweet about it. Encouraging. Changed my whole outlook on life and music.

Loved that the Byrds didn’t overpower Fats with rock volume. Skip is using an Ampeg B-15, which is hardly loud enough to keep up with a heavy handed drummer. The Byrds are allowing Fat’s lovely piano playing to be heard. Thank God. Great touch, guys!

The Byrds were never an overpowering type of band.. I frankly wish the recording was more balanced. Clarence's guitar is so far in the background you have to strain to hear it. It's great, yet unexpected, to hear a collaboration between these icons of rock. Great video clip!

That’s not the way it was. Fats was the star, this was a featuring Fats, show. Notice they never put a camera featuring White? The sound man is instructed to ‘feature’ Fats. Clarence is just part of the rhythm section in the eyes of the TV producers.

Great Clip, first view for me and had no clue that the Byrds and Fats played together. This version of the Byrds where very accomplished musicians, McQuinn a excellent guitarist in his own right , Skip , and Gene excellent Bass and Drums. Clarence and Fats are in the Pantheon.

I'm not sure whose idea it was to have The Byrds backing The Fats. On its face, it seems like a weird pairing, but it worked. The jam in the first tune might be the first time I've ever seen McGuinn use barre chords. As expected, Clarence's playing is the epitome of taste, and perfectly complements the songs.
