I was gifted a clarinet this Christmas from my grandfather and this was really helpful because I am going to join band in 8th grade

I find it important to tell beginners to hold the the key down to keep the bridge key lifted up while assembling the upper and lower stacks as to not bend the bridge key! I've seen far too many bent bridge keys due to people mashing the two stacks together by making sure the bridge key on the upper stack clears the bottom mate.

My band teacher says the reed cap is not useful to protect the reed

It is optional, but if you hit your reed against something with a cap, it will have a bigger percantage of it not breaking than it would if it didn't have a cap.

my band director told us that we shouldn't keep the reed on the instrument when we put it away because it could get bacteria on it and we won't be able to clean it

yea my music teacher said salova gathers up after a while, and if you dont clean it, it turns into a hard pavement like ball and you need a screwdriver or sonething sharp and hard to take it of

I've been playing jazz on sax for years and I finally decided to try clarinet and my band director gets me one of them and I think ale it home and watch this only to find that I don't have a barrel. I want to die. Why are the reeds so small.
