I'm thirteen and your videos have been so helpful. I've won multiple awards just because of your helpful videos.(especially the one on reeds) Thank you so much.

Good tips! I like Aker Bilk's tone and vibrato. Do you know what clarinet he plays and what set up does he use, if you know?

@@ClarinetMentors yes going very well and improving, thanks Michelle. I'm having to play sitting down as I've a broken ankle. I much prefer to stand and play, I just don't seem to hit the grove while sitting. What's your preference? Do you ever have to play clarinet while sitting - like in an orchestra?

Hello Michelle! Thank you so much for your videos, they are very helpful. I have one question about reed sizes. I am almost positive I need a 3 sized reed. However, my band director told me Rico 3s are the same as Vandoren 2.5s. Is this correct? Do you recommend I get a Rico 3, Vandoren 2.5, or Vandoren 3? Or neither? Thank you so much!
@ClarinetMentors6 жыл бұрын
Hi Taylor, The Vandoren reeds in general are a bit stiffer than the regular Rico reeds. Even Vandoren reeds are slightly different between the V12, Rue 56 and regular ones. If the Rico 2.5 feels quite soft, any of the Vandoren 3's would probably work for you. If you buy a box, make sure that you try a few since there will be some reeds that are stiffer than others in the box.

Help !!! I have played the clarinet for 6 years and this is the first issue I've had other than rigorous learning. Recently whenever i play my E note it comes out muzzled/airy. Now you would think its the embouchure but when i play the other notes (C,D,F,G, or any note other than than E) it sounds normal and good. I have no clue but when i asked my band instructor he said i might have an issue in the upper joint. Can i get help?

Hi Michelle. I was wondering if you can give me any feedback on where to put my tongue while playing. I know it's supposed to be arched and high, but when I do that it starts to squeak. I have a bad habit of putting my tongue behind my bottom lip when I play and I need help breaking that. If you have any exercises or anything for tongue placement, that would be great. Thanks!
@ClarinetMentors6 жыл бұрын
Often when we try to move our tongue up, our jaw comes with it and we squeak. It is a bit tricky to separate the two. These two videos may assist you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eovEqKanlL99oNk kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2O3hnqvidifi68

Hey! I was at one of your concerts yesterday with the Vancouver Bach Choir you guys sounded amazing! I have a quick question. Why does my Bb sound very airy but my other notes sound fine?
@leojay85785 жыл бұрын
Because when you clean your clarinet the cloth brushes against that key thus making it build up dirt and dust

I new to clarinet (senior recorder player) and just got my first clarinet and I have surprised myself being able to play notes right out of the box. But I have a problem and don’t know if it me or the clarinet when I play a “G” I get a perfect “F” when I play a “F” I get a perfect “E” and so on this goes on through the scale. Plus I can’t get a note at all on the upper register which might be me but I have use a couple of tuning apps and they all show the Clarinet play one note out is it me? Or do I have a problem with the Clarinet? Oh and thanks for the courses they will help a lot.
@jjjude15 жыл бұрын
Your instrument is a b flat instrument, meaning when you play a G what is coming out is “concert” F. Nothing wrong with your clarinet.

jjjude1 thanks yes I have learn a lot since I wrote this post. Feel a bit silly now but learn a lot. I’m still learning not sure if I’m getting any better but will keep at it.

Hi, I have a question. Is it right to have a size 3 reed and being in marching band? I have to play on the altissimo register so I switched to 3 just three days ago. I've been with the clarinet for 6 months but I learn pretty fast, and I don't know if for me is fine to have a 3, I think I can but is there any problem?
@tomatomcnuggets43535 жыл бұрын
Size 3 is reccommended for symphonic band. The harder the music gets ull have to have a stronger reed or else ur tone will suffer.

Hey Michelle, can clarinet bells make a difference with clarinet tone?
@ClarinetMentors6 жыл бұрын
It looks like Joshua beat me to it! Yes - a bell can even out your sound between registers and make your tone more resonant.

Clarinet Mentors (Michelle Anderson) Hey Michelle, how can I learn music faster besides using a metronome starting out slow than gradually speeding up?
@MechanicalSpencer6 жыл бұрын
Joshua Withers and Michelle Anderson, what is the ideal practice time for advanced students? I am practicing 30 minutes a day and 4 days a week currently and planning on to practice for an hour next week to help me get to the top band of my high school which is Wind Ensemble and get better at my music.
