What did I miss? I'd love to hear your own personal advice on becoming a better student
@philb47910 ай бұрын
Good grades are nice, but what you learn is more important. It is better to take challenging classes and learn new and useful things than to make good grades by only taking classes that are easy for you. I started at community college, finished my undergraduate at a mid-university with something like a 3.2 GPA, and still got into one of the best graduate programs in the country for what I do (though I left to focus on my work). Your work, volunteer experience, portfolio, and story will take you much further than grades alone.

Can u advice what to when we feel that the mind is clustered and u cannot remember what u are studying or focus?
@oreomchi5 ай бұрын
Summary: 1. Have a consistent morning and night routine - identify time for wakeup and bedtime for developing your circadian routine - small habits: making bed, skincare, vitamins; journal, etc. - prepare things you need in advance to reduce friction in establishing your new routines 2. Find a system that keeps you organized, daily and weekly - write your to do and deadlines on planners, calendars, notion, google calendar, etc. - include personal me time task 3. Show up to class as your ideal self - be attentive to claaa, sit on front row, turn off notifs Take notes - could be cornell, mindmaps, bullet, diagrams, charts, etc. 4. Romanticize school - life is more than school - discover new spots, playlists, bring book, take time in prep, treat yourself... everything that can give you happiness 5. Work on becoming more discipline - work smarter not harder - balance your personal and school life - when you work, make sure it's distraction free, you can only focus for only few hours - set your phone, use apps like flora to avoid unnecessary notifs when focusing or turn it off - watch study with me (have virtual study buddy) - avoid using phone during breaks, avoid too much stimulation - after class go to library to get work done if you know you can't be motivated when you get home (only leave when task is done) - see if you like being alone or with someone - be discipline when you have to stop working, so you get the most whwn working 6. Acknowledge when you feel burnt out - rest when you're burnt out, it's not the end of the world - when you're overworked, you can't be efficient Extra tip - take small, baby steps

1:41 ATTENTION MY FELLOW NIGHT OWLS, when she says going to bed a little later and having time to work in the evening, she does NOT mean being an insomniac. IF YOU CAN'T SLEEP, YOU WON'T BE PRODUCTIVE! I had insomnia but recently got melatonin, gosh it has been SO, SO, SO much easier to wake up early, focus on work, etc. Please sleep people 🙏

This is the first time I have watched your videos, but I got a very positive energy which motivated me much more than some videos that I watch, since some of the people who I've seen are kinda proud because they are such a good student (just some of them, not all :) ) but you gave a vibe of a very kind person. your video has some really good points that i can use as a pre-med student! i wanted to share a tip as well that might be helpful to someone: so i have ADHD and a very busy, spontaneous schedule (volunteering at the ER, research assistant and a part time job preparing the stadium at my school for concerts and athletic events). i love having a lot on my plate but it can be really difficult to sit down and just focus on one thing for hours. the 25/5 pomodoro method was helpful for me BUT only when i planned out breaks that were energizing but not TOO entertaining that i wouldn't want to start studying again. during the 5 minute break, i will do 100 squats or 100 crunches or 5 minutes of stretching or one small chore, like washing dishes, taking out trash, etc. it helps wake me up when i get bored from sitting down and isn't too distracting from my study session. also, make sure to drink lots of water and have a small snack every few hours. i hope this is helpful for someone who has ADHD

On the topic of asking for extensions. If it is a once in a while thing it is not an issue but you have to be prepared the the answer may be no or your grade may be docked. If you are routinely asking for extensions you need to sit down and re-evaluate some things. You may need to adjust priorities, rethink extracurricular activities, or consider if your course load is realistic or if you need to drop a class. If you are not turning assignments in on time then you are falling behind in class because material builds on each other

how to be productive when i'm depressed
@eminurshouse9 ай бұрын
Your mental health is more important than anything in your life. Going for a walk and being in movement is so beneficial for depression. Even if you don’t want to do it just get up and walk or do exercise, it’ll help, believe me. 🌻 If you can afford go to therapy, read self help books and do a lot of mental exercises. I would recommend “Feeling Good” by David Burns. I hope you will be feeling better and start your studying journey at the right time. Have a nice day! ☀️

KZbin Do you guys really find that writing pages of notes and going over them is the best way to study? This is an honest question, I'm truly curious. Because I used to be the kind of person to write basically pages of notes in my notebooks, but for some reason I couldn't retain any of the stuff I wrote. I found that going through my textbooks and writing questions on note cards with the answers to the questions on the back saved me time and effort for when exam time came around because not only would I have questions from each chapter of the text book, but I'd have the ability to sort out the questions and color coded chapter cards into the types of questions the TA's/Proff's said would be on the exam. This is how I became a minimalist A grade students when I used to average at B's. I'd even do this in lectures/class, bring a stack of note cards and write questions on them that, even if the Proff. didn't give the answers clearly, I'd go back and look up the answers from the text book. Anyway, this is just my experience, but I'm curious about how other people learn.
