Clarke Pro 90 Mig Welder Review [Set up and beginner welding]

Learning to weld with the Clarke Pro 90 Mig. This low cost unit gets good writes ups in the car forums. Will it prove a good choice for a beginner welder like me?

Just started welding and some good advice I read was if you get popping sounds (rather than a consistent sizzle), wire speed is too fast. If the wire burns up before reaching the work piece, wire speed is too slow.

not bad. anti spatter spray may come in handy. id disconnect the gas after every use. i used to use my left hand resting on my work with a gauntlet on the right sat on my left to keep steady it keeps the arc at the same distance easier then both hands floating using just a normal leather glove as you feel the torch better/trigger .......of to go cut and weld something now ive talked about it. #wyc

Probably depends a bit on the specific part. Machine mart and some.other retailer sell a few bits. eBay is probably a reasonable place to spot a few more either new or from broken units.

Any updates, did you find the right settings for the 20 gauge sheet metal. Bought the same welder. Just want to get the settings right, for tack welds. Thanks

Not sure how accurate these things are but that is pretty thin so would try 1/min first.

Hi John, between 2 and 2.5, which was about the lowest setting for a consistant flow I could find, although not sure how consistent these regs are. Presumably if there is a breeze would need to up a bit.
