Is that a handle on the side for raising and lowering the bit ? Is it any good ?

When locked, it does not have any play and I haven't noticed any significant difference between the router bit preset and the final result (we are talking about 0.2mm tolerances, so easily sanded) . The actual lowering mechanism is not very precise - like with most cheap tools, you have to triple-check the desired height, lock it, on-off and then re-check. It's OK, but I do not pay much attention to its scales and pointy arrows.

Perhaps if you held the camera steady I could watch this. Pity you are reviewing a machine without a key part - the fence!

This factory fence is so awful, that there is no point in assembling it. Seriously. I've built my own and it's bang on perfect for my needs.
