Yes. Freeze spell freezes instantly. Ice golem freezes from the center to the outside. By the time the calculation of the freeze got to the mortal, the timer for it to shoot had gone by, so it fired.

so how do these wars work exactly? Eric always mentions the last attacker having more time to prep. is it not 24hrs like in normal clan wars? how long do these teams see their opponents` bases for before the war starts?

I'm guessing you're not familiar with the war scene. These are done through friendly wars. In a friendly war, you can set preparation time as well as war time. There is usually 30 minutes for War Day in competitive matches, and they give time slots for when the first attack should take place. For example, as the war lasts 30 minutes, some tournaments have a rule that the first 2 attacks must come in before 15 minutes elapses. For something like the Queso Cup where every battle must be filmed, they may have 3 minutes in-between alternating attacks, i.e, 5 mins after war starts, NAVI attacks, 3 minutes later ETX attacks, 3 minutes later NAVI attacks, and so on till all 5 attacks are done. So, to recap the answer to your question, it's friendly wars.

You ask this question because you don't understand what a Golden Ticket is. If you have a ticket to enter a movie, you do not need to queue at the ticket booth again. Just walk into the movie theatre. After winning the Golden Ticket, they cannot compete for the other Golden Tickets.
