The reason I feel Tsuyu /Froppy is so popular is she is a more modern female anime heroine, in contrast to Ochaco. Ochaco is what I classify as the classical "Orhime[Princess]" trope. You all know, the supportive, clumsy, house-wifey, love interest for the main character that is mostly known for being the love interest of the shonen protagonist. Usually they have a unique power in the group, that steadily becomes less relevant in later arcs, where the Orhime is reduced to only appear in love interest roles. Tsuyu in contrast has a much more unique personality. She is lovable & kind, but she has a very direct and almost cynical aspect of her that is endearing. She is very sharp, and very observant too, which plays off of Deku's own dorky analytical side extremely well. Remember, she was the first to put a connection between Deku & All Might. Her powers are also very flexible, with room for future growth (can't wait for the poison dart frog paralyzing touch).

Hinata Hyuga falls into that princess category as well I think, she fawns over naruto and naruto never seems to acknowledge that until the series is over if I remember correctly. She used twin lion fists with 64 palms but it was offscreened so we didn't get to see that in naruto shippuden, she got to be princess peach in The Last Naruto Movie, and of course Orihime gets rescued as well from hueco mundo. Unlike hinata and chad, she actually gets to be useful throughout the story and in the final arc. I'm not saying she isn't a heavily sidelined plot device character but at least she gets something.

Tsuyu actually had a great "saving a friend" moment way earlier than the training arc. Remember during the UST arc, just right before All Might made his appearance, when Deku was being held by the Nomu? Tsuyu was reaching out to him WHILE having Shigaraki's hand right in front of her face

Minh Quan Cao Well, Shouji also had a great "saving a friend" moment. He literally covered Mina and Sero with his own body, when Black Mist appeared. And after that, he jumped on top of Black Mist to protect Iida. While Tsuyu saved Deku and Mineta, Shouji saved Mina, Sero and Iida. Not to mention Shouji has saved Deku on two different occasions as well. The first time he saved him frlm berserk Dark Shadow, and the second time he saved him from Toga. How is that? It looks like your frog is not all that special for saving him once. It looks like even Shouji has done more than her. Let me remind you Shouji kept her warm and alive in that filler episode where they had to face the tea girl and her allies, and they were locked in a room freezing. Yes, Shouji is better than Tsuyu. So don't think she is special for saving someone. She is just a shitty fanservice character.

Actually I think the real reason that Tsuyu was made into a girl, was because her color palette clashes with Deku and to have another male character with green hair can a green outfit would not let him stand out as much. Of course you could just make the person a different color, but green is an easy recognizable color for frogs.

I also think she adds a lot of variety to the female designs. With the males you have characters like Todoroki and Tokoyami who really are very unique. Compared to that the females all look pretty standard. Tsuyu adds a female that looks truly unique.

To quote kakashi and obito from the naruto series: those who abandon their mission are scum, but those who abandon their comrades are lower than that. That’s how I take the whole arc with trying to get bakugo back from the villains. Rules exist for a reason, but they’re also meant to be broken in extreme emergencies. However I also see the point that they were really inexperienced in that scenario, not to mention that they were just finished recovering from their last bout with them.

Tsuyu sensation was still rising when i started. Which was about chapter 20. More or less the boob grab and her attempted drowning of the much hated mineta. She also shit talks bakugou very early and because he didnt really have any redeeming qualities at that point it was another plus.

More on the Tsuyu addressing the 'rescue Bakugo' squad. What made me really like this scene was not only Tsuyu making her feelings clear that going off and doing something reckless not only made her sad and worried, but acknowledging that she herself made a mistake. Tsuyu also apologized (at least in the manga) for remarking that they were 'no better that villains' for wanting to risk their lives to rescue their classmate. While reprimanding her friends, she also realized the fucked up thing she said and tried to make that right as well. It's what made that scene actually impactful to me.

She's more mature than most people her age, probably because she had to take care of her younger siblings when growing up. She's forthright and says exactly what she thinks, but she's emotionally reserved most of the time and logical. Seems pretty self-confident, too, and takes her quirk abilities quite seriously. She's both likable in nature and admirable in terms of her integrity and dedication and really is the ideal of a true hero. She's cute and petite and doesn't look like she could present that much of a physical threat in a fight, so I think people tend to underestimate how powerful she really is, and most especially they don't realize how strong she is. I'm not sure if she's trying to encourage villains to underestimate her by taking the name "Froppy", which sounds like she should be a sidekick at best, or the comic relief at worst, while in actuality, she's one of the most competent heroes-in-training at UA. I would have named her Frog Princess or Amphibia or even Froggirl -- in other words, a name that would inspire the public's confidence. *Anything* but "Froppy"! I guess you can't always count on your grade school sensibilities, although she was clearly quite attached to and proud of thinking of that name. It does sound like a name a kid would make up, so maybe she's still a bit naive.

Two things: 1. The author did explain that Tsuyu had a major weakness- cold weather. It makes her slow down, and when she was shown in street clothes she was bundled up. I'm surprised that Recovery Girl or the other teachers didn't see this weakness and rig up the Final exam to at least address it. All Ectoplasm did was challenge Tokoyami's weakness of close combat; if they REALLY wanted to challenge the two merely cranking up the AC to maximum would've done the trick. 2. I'm wondering how the hell her camouflage ability works on her clothes as well. Ok, there might be some way her main costume could change color, but how would you explain the goggles also changing with the rest of the suit? The goggles look like they're made of plastic, metal and glass, and I would think they'd stick out like a sore thumb no matter where Tsuyu tried to hide. Honestly, I think the only reason why Tsuyu was regarded as one of the sexiest female characters on the show was only because Mineta addressed how big her boobs were, then actually grabbed them at one point. If Minata had been replaced by any other male character I bet Tsuyu would've been regarded as an asexual character much like Jiro.

I think the teachers didn’t do that due to it not really doing anything that would help her in the long run. There’s no really way for them to counter the cold and the result would be a shut out. The teachers wanted the students thinking out of the box for the exam

I was never much into Ochacko even though she's the main heroine in MHA Tsuyu even though wasn't fascinating at the first glance she gave off an aura that she could become more if given some shining time. I'm so glad Horakoshi did just that in USJ arc after that there was no stopping my affection for her. She may not the most beautiful girl in MHA but she's the most attractive one for sure to me.

For me, it was as early as USJ that made her my favorite character from MHA. A perfect example of her heroism is when she, Mineta and Deku are being held by Shikgaraki and the Nomu. Shigaraki is about to dissolve her, but she doesn't care, she still smacks his hand away because she prioritized saving Deku over her own life.

Shouji has also prioritzed his friends lives over his own. Tsuyu just saved Deku, Shouji saved Mina, Sero and Iida. Not to mention that he has saved Deku on two different occasions as well. Uno Lee has chakra. He just can’t do genjutsu or ninjutsu. If he didn’t have chakra then he wouldn’t be able to perform the 8 gates technique. As for Sage Mode Tsuyu, she would be overpowered but I wonder what she would look like? Would she be more like Naruto or have a weirder face like Jiraiya?

Matt did you know there is also a frog species which is able to break their own bones in their hands/feet so they can use these sharp bone like claws as kind of wolverine claws o.o maybe Froppy could get something like that in the future but it would have a big backlash due to her bones breaking.

2:10 To me she also feels incredibly believable. The way she acts is almost exactly how my younger sister acts. She just feels real and not just like a character. Her quirk is also very unique and interesting. Deku's trait is spectacular but by itself not very interesting. All the intrigue comes from Deku himself since at the end it's just more strength. Also even with that it's still a very linear power while Tsuyu's power can be used for many different things. Like rescue, 3D fighting, stealth, grabbing things, smuggling things and many others. She also is just a really likable character. Kind and helpful but not too much to the point where it makes me roll my eyes which happened a few times with Deku in the beginning. Her design is also fairly unique especially compared to everyone else without looking out of place. I really fell for her at the internship as her nerves and confusion really clicked with me. I still think it's the best one of all the internships.

I adore tsuyu, and not because of the more explicit side of her. Horikoshi made her adorable yes, but he also gave her a wonderful personality. She’s kind, worries about her friends, and is simply an amazing character as a whole. Her powers, while simple, actually make it easier to focus more on character building than having to overly explain her quirk. Speaking on her abilities, her quirk also makes her a highly versatile utility/support hero to a high powered devastator hero, as well as an expert rescue hero, as seen in season 2.

She worries about her friends? That's nothing special, really. All the kids in the class worry about one another. Character buiding? She has none. The manga is already on chapter 203 and she still hasn't developed anything new, since her camouflage ability. And I doubt, she will have any other powers or abilities. Horikoshi is not going to waste his time researching frogs, to know what they can, and can't do, so he can add another move to her arsenal. The last move she created, was camouflage, and since the license exam arc, she hasn't come with anything new. Her quirk is not versatile, it's only limited to stretching her tongue, and climbing walls. That's almost everything she can do, excluding the camouflage. And she will never be a devastating hero. She is just a support. Her main job, is to support the real fighter heroes, just that. And she did nothing special in the second season. She didn't even pass the cavalry battle. She is tottally useless, and worthless. This is the sad truth.

Before I've finished the video, I don't think Tsu requires much explanation. They knocked her design right out of the park: she's a non-ordinary girl. Everything that makes her stand out in appearance and personality is a positive attribute. She's a poster child for the outcast in that all of her oddities are played endearingly. Almost anyone can be drawn to her. The strongest aspect of this character is that she is an outright proven hero that anyone can lean on for safety, comfort, and support. Every memory I have of her involves her saving someone or planning a strategy with her peers. I would not have minded her commanding even more screen time in the series.

Tsuyu didn't impress me too much, but when she had her hair up in the latest episode at the dorms she was pretty moe. I think her popularity is she has such an innocent look to her. Her popularity may be due to the unusual nature while all others are pretty normal her fans are united while more normal fans are all divided between the others. Thought Hentai art doesn't cause popularity, It chases popularity. Ashido > Uraraka > Tsuyu > Momo

for me growing up with the xmen and Toad...seeing such a stark contrast work with Su was really refreshing and i always liked her disposition and in the anime they mention one of her passive abilities seemed to boost morale, i think deku mentions it along with the Dark shadow guy. After that it just seemed to all come together for this character, and she reminds me of politoed too i guess.

Was looking forward to this one, can't wait till we roll for Ochaco. Beside that, was Froppy's room never revealed? Kinda missed that. What else was there with her power, we did talk about the tongue and that she can swallow things (also that scene with the handcuffs was a cool scene and a great split decision from Asui, cause she stole and ate the cuffs that were in posession of Tokoyami at that time and when the giant Ectoplasm clone came at them, that was the moment she did it). But she's also one was the greatest climbers in class 1A where she can stick to any kind off surface and leap over the entire whirlpool radius that Izuku made. Also one off Asui's powers is appearently that she can breath and communicate under water, like she did when say "goodbye" in a cocky way when saving Izuku xD. We could had made it an hour long video I guess, but it was great, allthough Camoflage I hadn't seen yet, wonder when the introduce us to that in the anime. Also about the acid thing, I don't think that will happen, if she does get that upgrade that would make Mina obsolete, since her whole stick is acid skating and spraying ever since the Ultimate moves training. I already think Iida and Sato are obsolete cause off Izuku cause he's a power up quirk and he's resorted to kicking now.

While I do indeed love Tsuyu and think it's cool for her to be calm and level-headed "anchor" for the other characters and is a versatile jack-of-all trades, that's also part of my biggest gripe with her character: she's too perfect, or at least *seems* to be too perfect, so there's no room for growth and thus nothing you can really do with her. Maybe Horikoshi will amend this in later chapters, but as of right now I don't see her having much of an arc(if she even has one at all). Sure, there was the whole kerfuffle with the "Bakugo Rescue Squad"(which, while understandable, made her out to be a bit selfish and short-sighted), but nothing of substance has really resulted from that as of yet, so that point is more-or-less moot. Also, no. Bakugo would most definitely *NOT* be "okay" with them not going to Kamino: he would be dead and/or be a Nomu(and All-Might would've most definitely lost *and died* on live TV to boot).

Well, it really looks like Tsuyu is one of the most popular characters in this show. And I'm not against it. It's just that I have noticed she doesn't have enough time on screen for her popularity. The first time we got to know her quirk was during the USJ attack, where she saved Deku. A little introduction to her character. After that, her next important scene was during the festival where she lost the cavalry battle, and we never got to see her fight. After that we have her exam with Tokoyami against Ectoplasm. I noticed that they adressed Tokoyami's weakness in close combat, but completely forgot to deal with her weakness to cold weather. Just to make her look perfect and flawless. During the third season, after the villains attacked the training camp, Tsuyu was inmobilized by Toga in mere seconds, and again she couldn't fight. After that she tried to prevent her friends from rescuing Bakugo, just to give the audience a scene of her crying. A fanservice scene. During the license exam we finally saw her weakness, but unfortunately, she fell asleep in Shouji's arms, giving us another fanservice scene of her all bundled up in a blanket and sleeping. Sje literally passed by doing nothing. What I am trying to say here is that she never had any epic fight scenes. For example if during the test against Ectoplasm, they made them fight in a cold environment, or at least they turned the air conditioner or something, so Tsuyu would face her weaknesd too, she would have probably fell asleep, making Tokoyami fail the exam. I just... don't understand her popularity or why people love her so much. She is not even the prettiest or best-looking girl in the show. Half her scenes are fanservice, just to please the audience, and attract more viewers. I don't think she is all that great. Just my opinion though.

Tsu is my #2 waifu in all of anime and my #1 waifu in BHA. I think what really made her so popular was her uniquely adorable design and her capable, caring, and cooperative attitude. She's very chill. Definitely seems like a waifu you would just hang out with on a lazy, rainy, summer day. And really, what do we want out of a waifu besides someone we could hang with?
