Yes it is true that democracy is seen to be good in principles but not so good in practice as: i) It frustrates the need of the majority of its citizens. ii) it is said to ensure transparency to the Citizens so that they can check if proper norms and procedures are being followed or not but Democratic government don't have a good record of sharing information with the citizens as it is expected to. iii) in general elections, money and muscle power is used to gain votes and thus the democratic government fall short in holding fair elections. iv)Democracy should ensure that wealth and political equality is there but in most of the democracies a small no. Democracy is seen to be good in principles but not so good in reality because: 1.It is not able to produce the expected outcome it terms of economic growth and development. 2.In a democratic govt. also there are chances of conflicts between the different social groups in reality but not so in its principles. 3.A democratic government fails to provide equal rights to every individual. 4.A democratic government is said to be accountable but when it comes to the reality, in most of the cases ordinary citizens are excluded from the process of decision making. 5.In democracy, sometimes the government fails to accommodate the social diversity as seen in the case of Sri Lanka. 6.Democracy is just a form of government and it can only set rules and norms for achieving goals. At last, the citizens are responsible to make the best use of these conditions to enjoy rights.

But it has several positive outcomes also. Democracy is seen to be good in principle as •It enhances the dignity of individual. •Promotes equality among citizens. •Improves the quality of Decision making. •Provides a method to resolve conflicts. •Allows a room to correct mistakes. But Democracy sometimes , it is unable to meet people's expectations and on ground things are not same which are being said about democracy.

Despite democracy being considered better than it's alternatives because of it's moralities, most of the citizens are dissatisfied with the democracy in practise- 1. It is expected from democracy to produce a government which ensures social equality but in ground realities, evidences shows that there still exists the caste based inequality and discrimination to women. 2. We expect democracy to eradicate economic disparities among the rich and the poor but reports shows that 20% population holds about 80% of the nation's wealth. 3. It is reasonable to expect democracy to produce an accountable form of government but at times, citizens are kept deprived of the information of the functioning and decisions that are taken place in the government, hence devastating transparency between government and citizes. 4. As we reside in a democratic regime, it's justified to have a responsive government. But at times, there are instances where the government is negligible to the needs and demands of the people, violating it's principle. 5. While democracy is expected to enhance economic growth, marginal differences in the economic rates have been observed when democratic government is compared with non democratic regime, with the dictator being in the lead.
