anatomical divisions of pituitary gland = pars distalis, pars intermedia, pars nervosa. Anterior pituitary produce hormones such as growth hormone ( Somatotropin), prolactin, (PRL), TSH, ACTH (adreno cortico tropic hormone) LH anf FSH. Posterior pituitary stores and release hormones produced by the hypothalamus such as Oxytoxin and Vasopressin (ADH). Oxytoxin helps in the contraction of smooth muscles of myometrium of uterine wall ( child birth hormone ) It helps in the ejection of milk by the contraction of mammary tubules. ( milk ejecting hormone ). Prolactin = regulates the developement of mammary tubules and formation of milk. TSH = stimulates the secretion thyroid hormones. ACTH acts on the adrenal cortex and stimulates the secretion of steroid hormones such as glucocorticoids.
