Because when Columbus set sail to find India he wrongfully landed on another land which is now known as the West Indies (North America which we read in the chapter Displacing Indigenous People) and the people who reside there are called Red Indians or Indians. Hence our land as India was called East India. Therefore, East India Company.

Maratha Empire was ruling when the Britishers captured India... And yes Britishers attacked on india during Mughal Empire as well but then Mughals defeated then very badly! Last Mughal Emperor leaded the revolt of 1857 and in return Britishers assassinated his sons and deported all his successors and family members from india! You know why there is no descendants of any muslim ruler? Because they all whether nawab of Bengal, nawab of awadh, sultan of Mysore and last Mughal emperor badshah Bahadur Shah Zafar they all revolted against Britishers in 1857 and Marathas, rajputs, sindhias (hindu kings) helped and supported Britishers against those muslim ruler after which officially throne of india had fallen in hand of BRITISHERS! And still Descendants of those rajput, maratha and sindhia kings are alive and living their luxurious life... And today hindus respect them (who supported colonizers) and abuse them (who fought to save them from colonizers) 🥲
