How can surface tension increase with adding impurities? Any example??
@physicsgalaxyworld
@physicsgalaxyworld 6 жыл бұрын
due to soluble impurities surface tension increases and because of colloidal impurities it decreases as surface tension is due to cohesive intermolecular forces between particles...

Hi Sir, you said that surface tension decreases with increase in temperature, but sir according to my observation when we heat a bowl on oven and put some water in it drop by drop, instead of collapsing due to loss of surface tension, it becomes like balls (just like mercury, which has high surface tension) and roams around. Sir how can this be explained? Sir please reply. Thank you

That is caused by not only surface tension but also different phenomena. It's called the Leidenfrost effect

how surface tension is scalar ? please give me reply
@physicsgalaxyworld
@physicsgalaxyworld 8 жыл бұрын
Its defined as the surface energy per unit surface area of a liquid surface so its a scalar... its also numerically equal to the force per unit length of any line considered on the liquid surface normal to the line... so it does not have a specific direction and does not follow the rules of vector algebra...

Same as presuure and force P=F/A p is scalar but f is vector

Sir how STension decrease with increase in temperature sir can you elaborate this plz

with increase in temperature, intermolecular forces start to break in liquid and so tension between particles reduces leading to decrease in surface tension
