Actually, its a case of molecule so we suppose its elastic collision and you know in elastic collision final and initial momentums are same but in this case they are in opposite direction so you thought I used initial - final Momentum in fact it’s not true! Secondly, we’ve calculated speed not velocity! We know, velocity= displacement upon time But this is a case of molecule and its motion is random in all direction so it will be hard to calculate velocity so we consider speed here!
