Bet that cleaned all 8 cyliders out on each 20!! I remember when I was about 12, my Dad and I visited friends in Bromsgrove and Bob took us to the footpath at the summit by the cottages where the railings are and I had one of the thrills of my life watching the trains come up the bank some 53 years ago!!!!

They had a good thrashing before this but I'm sure this certainly blew away any cobwebs :) I've never been "on the ground" there but have many fond memories of window-hanging behind 47s thrashing up as I made a 3/4 weekly trip back home from Bristol :)

Stunning thrash from the EE veterans, a lot has changed and gone since 2015. A great record of a memorable tour. Thanks for sharing this !

I have just discovered these train videos and they are absolutely wonderful. What an antidote to the trash and muck on most media!

Im reminded of my early days on the railway when I served as a secondman at Frodingham TMD, Scunthorpe. my 4th week of duty was working on the Gunhouse Banker - a single class 20.

Great video ! Interesting seeing the sidings at the top , Guess they’re used for recessing helper locomotives? , good stuff , the class 20s sound good attacking the incline 👍
@Phil62195 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) Yes, that would be where the banking locomotives would move into after dropping off the back of whatever they were shoving then afterward they could head back down ready for the next one. The 20s had a good workout that day :)

They sound great but these locos I hated the most as they were so bloody uncomfortable, bloody awful locos to spend even half an hour on let alone a 13 hour shift.
@Phil6219 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, my experience on the footplate is limited to preservation but they were very uncomfortable (though by far better than Class 14s) and more importantly were a nightmare for spilling tea ;)
@bobp6742 Жыл бұрын
@@Phil6219 for spilling tea try it on a class 81 not only lose your tea but your teeth as well 🤣

At 6m45s....what a good perent they are,.... children on or about the line side....railway side of gate sat in the cess.....waving! it's a bloody railway for gods sake trains whoosh down hill at 80mph...stay public side of gate...ARSE

that is parents for you, plan 1, kids and parents on this side of the railway, one kid gets excited, runs forward as a train is coming down the likely, kid nowhere to be seen after train went by, plan 2, kids and parents on other side of the railway, kid runs forward, runs into the fence as train is coming down the likely, kid still there after train went by.
@perthdave1006 жыл бұрын
police were called to the the area after complaints from driver on the likely about people on this side of the railway, officer had been speaking to some of the parents with kids, one dad said, i was on this side of the railway, myself and my 2 kids are at a safe distance from the track, kid says to officer, my dad said it was ok to be on this side of the railway, dad was arrested and fined.
@perthdave1006 жыл бұрын
bad spelling from me, should be Lickey, not likely.
@jonathanbell96614 жыл бұрын
It's about time a few £1000 fines were handed out, there are enough signs around that say not to trespass!! And the fences are there for a reason, bet they wouldn't trespass a field that said it had a bull in it!!!.

And of cause none of us ventured on to the railway back in the day as kids.....🤔
