Days when you go from Exeter to Paignton all day with an endless procession of engine and coach formations. Unrepeatable times...

This is fantastic. The Peaks were great machines. Really happy memories- perhaps I’m looking at it through Rose tinted glasses but the railway was great back then.

A great era now sadly passed but whilst many enthusiasts may not like today's offerings the railways have had to modernise and become more efficient and variety is now sadly almost a thing of the past

I asked over a hundred train drivers who had signed Peaks amongst many other engines, and ALL bar 1 said the Peaks were the best of the lot, utterly reliable, and would get you out of any situation. These were men I worked with, old hands I respected.

Happy days there and just by Paignton South Signal box, summer Saturdays inter-city trains every 15 minutes to all over the country.

Splendid. Peaks,Mk1s and semaphores. An Atlantean,some of Harry’s bread vans and probably a vac basher winding out the peak about 2.35. Poor chap!!

A bit of everything in the departure shot from Paignton; Peak, Bedford CF ambulance (I think), Devon General Bristol VR, even a Vauxhall Viva!

I think the ambulance is mk3 transit 😷💀🇬🇧

My favourite diesel, the mainstay (along with the 47's) on the Midland Main line for so many years, so much more character than the stuff we have these days.

Character and variety is sadly missing from today's railway but I think their *MORE EFFICIENT*

Good to see some super 8 output with audio attached to it. Enjoyable to come across some footage taken around Newton Abbot just before it was resignalled (when Exeter panel was new); I had a fair bit to do with that in those years!

Back In The Days When We Had a Real Railway With Proper Trains
@Keithbarber3 жыл бұрын
What are you talking about? Proper railway with proper trains - we've got far more efficient trains these days and We've got an even better railway these days with even better trains, but with hardly any variety that's all peaks had their time but at least the footage is still with us
@andrewganley90163 жыл бұрын
@@Keithbarber Better railway with better trains? kidding right! must be a First Group shareholder or need to go to Specsavers as for 'proper' trains presume you include all the Japanese/Spanish built plastic rubbish,rock hard seats,noisy under floor engines and bad as the old BR may have been don't think they would run trains with cracked frames i.e Class 800s
@Keithbarber3 жыл бұрын
@@andrewganley9016 no, I'm not kidding, I'm just telling the truth and being realistic You're OBVIOUSLY *DELUDED* and need a reality check

The departure from Torquay sounded better than I remember peaks sounding......that could pass for a valenta scream.pulling away

020s fantastic turbocharger screaming the place down? Magnificent. I agree peaks didn't sound memorable but maybe I was wrong.
