real shame to see there's no update for years, id happily volunteer if the restoration restarts.

What's happening now? The website seems to be dead, 58016 seems to just sit at Leicester... it's a real shame.

Very interesting & informative video..certainly a good idea as it lets the membership see & appreciate the excellent work being done on the loco along with the AGM various discussions....Videos are always going to show more than words & pictures can....Regards Steve H (58241)

I hope in a few years time we can see 016 running on the Mainline doing Railtours & Spot-hire. I bet loads of preserved railways will be happy to have 016 as their star loco for Diesel Gala weekends. ;-)

Fantastic video and great to see some Bolsover line workings. I've visited the disused line a couple of times now (see my video 'Exploring the disused Bolsover freight line' if you're interested) and have been searching for pictures and footage of the line in use. If you have any more it would be brilliant to see it on KZbin!

Looking good hope to see her up and running some day soon, your all doing a great job restoring her back to her glory and if ever she could be let out on the mainline that would add excellent funds to keeping her in good shape!:)

steam locomotives are my favorites but IV come to respect the 58s and the power stations they served, I live by the Ironbridge power station and I'm desperately hoping for it's preservation, I would like 58005 to be saved in the future, it's great to see all of this work

I personally think there was un due haste by EWS to off load the Class 58's as although they were said to be unrelaible in the later years the were still a great hauler and Last But NO means Least They Were BRITISH! Unlike their replacements! But Good To See atleast 1 has been saved from the cutters torch!

Theres 38 out of 50 in britain and probably not unless more than 1 is preserved and gets a mainline certificate
@orangepatriot8512 жыл бұрын
this may sound a silly question but why did you choose a class 58? how many are still running today? thanks
@JohnSmith-mx8jh7 жыл бұрын
Yeah awesome

Popularity with trainspotters would not concern operators and nothing beats EMD for reliability; it would be cheaper to overhaul a 58 than buy a new 66 though, but with this logic we could still be using 37's etc with maybe EMD engines!
@Nighthawke7012 жыл бұрын
The wiki call's the 58's "Egg Timers" There's nothing on the reason why. Would that be the dependability or how the engine sounds to it?
@MontyCantsin56 жыл бұрын
No, it's a reference to the shape of the loco when viewed from the top.

There are no 58's running in the UK, all have been withdrawn, some have moved to France & Spain. all the rest at rusting at Diesel Depot's around the country so it is of great impotance to have 58 016 running again..

Was very sad to see these "beasts" getting layed up or scrapped by ews ect.
@drs6641212 жыл бұрын
EWS made a huge mistake introducing the class 66 to britain because A. Theyre less powerfull than the 58s B. Theyre not popular with trainspotters and C. The drivers hate them because A. They dont have air conditioning and B. The engine is mounted on the chassis so the vibrations of the engine shake the whole of the inside of the train Personally I think ews should of gave them more of a chance because of all the reasons ive said plus they on got anothe 3 or 4 years of service
