The locos now stored in the car park are as follows -
Class 60's (Since 2022) -

Class 73 -
73138
Class 92's -
92021, 92040, 92045, 92046
Also seen at the storage area at the far side of the works are a couple of the new locos recently imported for GBRf - These are to be 66311 and 66313 once the next stages of their commissioning for then UK network is completed.

Seeing those locos are a reminder that the 60s and 92s were the last diesel and electric locos designed and built by a British company for mainline use in the UK.

Excellent footage, well controlled flying. Saw some drone footage of Toton the other day, at least they've lined them up neatly before killing them. To be fair, sad though it is, it's the only way to keep the better examples of the fleet running, as spares off the shelf are non existent. This has always been accepted practice even going back to steam days.

You see when all the loco's BR had where "given" away, their new owners did not care to give any TLC, that's why Toton yard is full of run down 60s that they got dirt cheap, plus all those scrapped locos
@johnclarke2997
@johnclarke2997 5 ай бұрын
@@robertstibz9506 No point in giving TLC to the old BR locos when they have the class 66. Much more reliable and well supported by EMD. Customers were happy to have the class 66 replace the old BR fleet. Most of the BR fleet had already reached the end of its service life and BR knew this, but BR were unable for various reason to buy new British locos in large quantities.

@@dizzy2020 DCR are contemplating returning some of the 60s to working order if/when their business workload increases. 60098, as the thousandth Brush-built loco, will likely be among any brought back to use. That said, no obvious repair work has so far been done, and I'd assume the extent to which anything's been done to these ones in recent times is removal of parts to maintain the four locos already in traffic.

@@dizzy2020 "Worth nothing that a major shareholder in EWS when this was happened was a US company so they'd likely much prefer US-made locos?" Why would they care which country the locomotives were built in? They cared about reliability and running costs, and the 60s had not much of the former and too much of the latter.

GBRf are looking at it. 60014 at Longport has been heavily stripped out for conversion feasibility assessment work to be undertaken, but one thing has been established already - no EMDs. They don't fit (EWS found that out some years ago!) Most likely to get a Caterpillar engine if any are rebuilt.
