Before backing, take a visual assessment of ALL objects around the spot where you intend to back into. Like curbs, trees, fire hydrants, forklifts, vehicles, fences, buildings, signs, etc. It's all about the placement of your tandems. The closer you put your tandem near the spot where you intend to back in, the better. If you have plenty of space, it doesn't matter where the front of your truck is. If you don't know what's down the road behind the building, GET OUT & walk the path yourself. But most of you are lazy & will rather drive down the unknown path.

What if you knock over the rear cone and go to far? Can you use a get out and look and fix it or is it an auto fail?

Remember it's a point system. You fail depending on how many points you incur during this test. I think cones and line encroachments are 2 pts.

Also remember that you are given 2 "free" get out and looks. Extra get out and look moves are violation points added to your total.
