PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
The chief objective of the Professional Tractor-trailer Driver Training Program offered by Shippers' Choice of Virginia, Inc. is to train qualified individuals in the knowledge and skills needed to obtain a job entry level position in the trucking industry.
Shippers' Choice instructs its students in the practical operation of tractor-trailer trucks. Students are taught the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations as they apply to the operation of commercial vehicles. Upon graduation, our students must be able to:
- safely operate a tractor-trailer
- have a working knowledge of the equipment
- be able to pass state administered licensing tests
- successfully complete the required written examinations and road tests administered by both the school and potential employers.
MORE THAN DRIVERS' ED
As a secondary objective, students achieve the self-confidence needed to secure employment. This is accomplished through thorough testing and evaluation of each student.
To most of our perspective students, having a good job with a good income
means not only a higher standard of living, but an increased feeling of self-respect. Shippers' Choice of Virginia, Inc. through its training program, provides an educational vehicle that individuals may use to provide a more productive and successful future and achieve their employment goals in an economical way. The need for training in this field is dramatic, as the trucking industry is second only to agriculture in employment.

Hands-on and Classroom Truck Driving Instruction
THEORETICAL APPLICATIONS
Safely Operating a Tractor-Trailer Students learn to identify and predict potentially dangerous driving situations. The cause and prevention of physical and mental fatigue and illness are discussed as well as the adverse affects of drugs and alcohol.
The course offers a systematic presentation of the driver's daily logbook, logbook recap, driver maintenance checks and services, and efficient trip planning. Includes research of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations to provide answers and references which prepares the student for the official Department of Transportation written examination.
Getting your State License Additionally, the student will examine, interpret, and apply the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, including Commonwealth supplementation.
Licensing/permitting procedures for interstate hauling are also included.
ON-THE-ROAD DRIVING
Preparing for the Road Test This portion of the Course provides the opportunity to develop the skills necessary for the safe operation of a Class "A" Vehicle in the real world environment. Positive, professional and safe approaches are emphasized. Training is provided on rural, interstate, and city highways.
RANGE TRAINING
Knowing Your Equipment This portion of the course is designed to introduce the student to the basic driving maneuvers and refine the skills required to pass the Commercial Drivers License Basic Control
Skill Test.
It also includes practical instruction in coupling and uncoupling semi- trailers, use of hazard warning devices, lighting systems, numerous backing techniques and the Commercial Drivers License pre-trip inspection procedures.
EVALUATION
Written Examinations & Road Tests Evaluating students in this program is done on four different levels. First, the instructors give daily quizzes and tests. Second, the instructors give driving skills tests. Third, the instructors will administer both the federal written exam and the federal driving skills examination. Last, we will make arrangements for the student to be tested and licensed through the local DMV using our equipment.
AFTER YOU GRADUATE
We ensure that each student graduate finds-not just a job-but a company to start their career with.

buck abney Btw I did not forget the secondary tanks are not a requirement. Also out of my gauges oil pressure I start with and always will, beings anyone should always check oil pressure first simply if not at the right pressure you need to cut off the engine before any damage occurs, or it might occur.

buck abney Not to say that something was not missed I may been teaching for 7 years now yet every time I film a pretrip I leave one item at a min off it's a givin filming always adds to the pressure cause I don't have time to edit re-make or re-do the filming of a pretrip usually something small but never oil pressure it's to stuck in my mind as 1st beings VA examiners can fail you if you do not check that 1st after starting the motor..
