A great subject. For the wife, and I we put the sofa down, and leave it down. We leave the jump seats up leaving the center space for getting up at night. We use kitchen gel mats for extra padding, one on each side. We use single sleeping bags which can be zipped together if need be. We have tried various configurations, but this is best for us. We also set up the table in back during the day, only taking it down at night. For us this has been very doable, and gives us the best use of the vans back space. Thanks, John

Enjoy your vids! Being disabled I just cannot make/unmake full bed and DO need to rest during the day. My solution? A double sleeping bag ( rated to 20*) I leave the sofa bed down like a day bed... rolling the bag up ( in a duvet cover wrap for decor) and push it to back doors. It acts as the sofa back. I use the shams to hold a body pillow and my winter coat and place them at sides. I do have a microfiber blanket for nights that don’t require Winter warmth when I sleep on top of the bag. No loss of cabinet space to mounds of sheets and blankets. PS please check your electric blanket as most are not safe for sleeping UPON

Sad you two moved on from the AS Interstate. 🙁. We take delivery in December (🤞) and have been digesting your wisdom of the past. Was wondering what y’all used for your rear curtain, windshield cover and cab window shades? And storage …. Geez with canopy, chairs, tools, bedding, clothes, etc. did you do a separate video on how to pack everything? 🤷‍♂️. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! We took a trip with our adult son across country in our Roadtrek 190. It has a convertible bed from the front passenger seat to the seat right behind it. He used it twice before opting for a hotel every night. Like your Airstream, our RT is really only good for two people. Maybe a child could sleep in it. If there are 4 (6 fixed seat belts), we would bring a tent for two. We added a king size mattress pad which makes all the cracks between cushions disappear, but it takes up precious space. We also often leave the bed made and just sit outside when it is nice. I like your 12v heated blanket.

B Vans are really made for just two people. We had a friend and his child stay with us because they were freezing in their tent so we let them sleep inside on the front seats. It was crowded and zero privacy. We like using down sleeping bags and thin foam pads. Not as comfortable as your set up but fast. I think if we were full timing we’d set up regular bedding like you do

Always look forward to your videos Recently I met someone with a sprinter van extended. It was beautiful I asked him would you recommend it he said no. That he has had so many problems with it. One time he had his hand brakes get stuck, he had to wait for Mercedes roadside service to come fix it. He said the computer for the driver was not sync properly with the dashboard big screen computer. He said it’s very expensive maintaining the upkeep on the sprinter. I have seen videos with sprinter owners that have shown how one can change the oil and change the air filter and oil filter, so to keep cost down. For the time you guys have had your spinner have you also have had many issues with it ? I did see your videos where are you exchanged your pump I think it was for the black tank. And also when you upgraded your batteries you did it yourself so I could see that saved you guys quite a bit of cash. With your batteries inside I would assume that you carry your spare tire underneath. I’ve seen a video of a company that converts spinner vans and suggested not to carry a spare tire that extra weight. That’s if you’re willing to wait two or three days for Mercedes roadside service to come and help you with any issue you’re having. Have you guys had many flat tires ? Also are you guys planning to travel outside the country like Canada or Alaska ?
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, a lot of great questions and topics thanks! The cost to own a MB Sprinter van is higher than other vans ( I believe) , but these are heavy duty commercial 1 ton vans designed to go many 100's of thousands miles. We have only had one major issue with the diesel exhaust components that was covered under warranty. (would have been about $3,000) The oil changes and scheduled maintenance is about $300-500 per year. Had two flats when we first bought it in FL back home in the cold weather of MN. We put on all new tires right away and have not had any flats since. Spare underneath and happy it's there!

@IreneIronTravels

Yeah, thicker blanket would work. Even the smaller 12v blanket we use helps. And if you have a 24 ft sprinter you get that 18inches of extra storage for a bedding topper!
@maryannhoule2325
@maryannhoule2325 3 жыл бұрын
I use a wamsutta pillow topper for the bottom. It’s not too thick, just right for comfort and it has a snap off top that can be easily washed thus removing the need for a sheet. We then cover up with a satiny like quilt from sheets and giggles on Amazon. May need a lighter blanket for summer. Works for us though.

It's seems like a lot, but we need bedding for a wide range of temps being full time on the van. The nights can range from the just above freezing in the 30's, where we use all off the bedding, to night's in the 70's were we just use the top sheet. We also have to pack summer and winter close in there too!

We have a 24GT on order so your videos are very helpful! Question about your 12v heating blanket - do you leave it on all night? How many watts is it? How much battery power do you lose if you use it all night?
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff, congrats on the AI! The 12v blanket has a 45 timer, so good and bad. We usually hit it once or twice at night and then in the morning when we wake up. So not too much power at all. Its about 40 watts or about 3.5 amps.
@HeAndHis
@HeAndHis 3 жыл бұрын
@@IreneIronTravels Thanks! So if it's on all night, ~ 10 hr, it will be 35 ah. I remember you have two 100 ah lithium batteries? It would consume less than 18% power, and even less if the blanket is in on/off cycle with automatic temp control. Makes sense? Another question about winter camping - what's the lowest temp you've encountered? What's the lowest you think AI can handle regarding the tanks? Safe travels!
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 жыл бұрын
The timer automatically shuts off at 45 min and you have to hit the button again. I think its a safety feature on all the 12v blankets.... but yes if you could keep it on its relatively low power usage. We have 400 amps, so It would be under 10% power. We have been in the high 20's overnight once and the tanks don't freeze if you go back above freezing the next day. But the coldest we have camped for a week or two is usually in the 30's. If boondocking, be prepared for the propane furnace to be on alot and if plugged in we use a 1500 watt vornado space heater for even quiet comfort!
@HeAndHis
@HeAndHis 3 жыл бұрын
@@IreneIronTravels But furnace draws a lot of power too correct? We love space heater but that's not an option for boondocking
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 жыл бұрын
The furnace isn't too bad...... it's about 55watts or 4.5 amps. If it's really cold it might kick on a couple times an hour for around 10 minutes once upto to temp. We set it at 65 at night and pump it to 70 in the morning for a warm up. Its not very even heat and its kinda loud, but it does the job while boondocking in desert and cold nights in the 30's!

That's funny, we got the same question on the last video! Some RV parks and campgrounds are bigger with more spacious/private sites and it's probably not a problem, but as you know some parks are packed so tight you know everything about your neighbor! We've never stopped to ask our neighbors so it's hard to say...... But, I can say I've never heard/seen anything coming from someone's rig soooooo..... good to go!😂

What brand and style of sheets have you found work best in the summer? I have flannel for cold weather usage, but haven't found anything that I like for warmer weather. Polyester and cotton blends are out as I tend to sweat too much using these styles, so that pretty much leaves cotton. Any suggestions will be welcome...thanks

Hey there! We use a Walmart brand, mainstays, that is a 100 polyester microfiber. We stayed at rental once that had those sheets and really liked the feel. Felt cooler to us than the 100% cotton. How much do your solar panels actually recharge your batteries? I've read stuff all over the place as far as how much charging you really get from solar panels. How often do you have to plug in to recharge them as opposed to the solar recharging them? Thanks.
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 жыл бұрын
Great topic! We will do a video to explain more, but it really matters how much solar you have, what time of the year(sun angle) and how much power you use. So, our 300 watts really isn't enough to charge the batteries up unless we are not using any power. So it really just helps us slow down the rate we have to recharge. In the summer time we could last about 10 days before having to use the gen or shore power to recharge and in the winter time its more like every 4-5 days.

@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 жыл бұрын
The bed is very comfortable to us. It is more on the firm side and I think a lot people like to add a mattress topper to make it feel more like a residential mattress, but for us after two years it has been fine. Our bed has a padded metal bar by the jumper seats that you can hit your knee on if not carful when getting into bed, but doesn't happen often!

Great question, we will definitely cover that topic. In short, the 19 foot you'll have no problems, 22 foot, only problems in really small lots that you can't back into and hang your bumper over, and the 24ft will give you a few more problems but is doable.
