You need to put a test valve on so you can drain it after you exercise it. The reason it was so hard to get off is because of the pressure.

Everyone do yourself a favor first remove the cap and install one with a petcock / 1/4” drain valve… perform your open-closing test, then drain off the pressure remove the drain cap perform your visual inspection … reinstall original cap perform your visual inspection then replace with the
