classic caravan 1974 Castleton Rovana at Fell Foot NT

Great to see this 1974 Catketon Rovana ay the NT Fell Foot park and boathouse by Windermere . After being contacted by the Trust for more info on this lovely lightly restored tourer, I was invited to check it out - open to the public this connects with the times a caravan site was once here - lots of info in the van and look out for Park Home and Holiday Living Magazine on a forthcoming issue. You are so correct Andy I love it you must do more on the old vans. There are so many things in that van that remind me of our old Cheltenham even thought about selling my Coachman and getting an old van and joining the Classic Van Club. Well done.

Hi Andy, really enjoyed that video. It's great to look around and see the inside and the lack of mod cons in those old vans. It looked really well put together and surprisingly bright and airy too. It's a throwback to the days when things were simpler and people were happy enjoying the touring scene and life was less complicated. Loved the picnic box and the old orange containers that everyone had.

Ah Kevin took me back when i was young and looking in such vans was exciting - it feels comp[act yet spacious at 6ft 6 wide! lots of folk popping in one couple would have chatted all afternoon if i hadnt been in such a rush at the end - glad you enjoyed it Kevin

Hi Andy! It reminds me of when i was Early teen, my friends parents had a caravan, a bit newer than this, and it had a foot pump on the floor to pump the water, which i thought was so cool! No hot water and a small room with a porta potty in it. i think it was a 2 berth? as the kitchen was on the off side, (driver side) and it had trad 2 berth benches. it also had gas lights, not sure if it had heating?? but we used to go away in it in the summer holidays for a week, but we (2 boys or more! would stay in a tent next to it, we did this every year from about 10 to when i was 18, when his dad no longer wanted to tow the car with his car so i towed it 1 year, at 18, (then if you towed a caravan you waved to other caravan people!) after that they bought a static and had that for around 10 years at Primrose Valley, and needless to say we all met up 1 weekend a year for a sort of reunion! great times!

What a great story love hearing of such stories social history - nostalgia when as Kevin said times were less stressful i caravanned with mum and dad and they had friends we met up with at weekends we had so much fun great days love the story Primrose Valley has been going a long time!- thanks Michael

lovely caravan. i bet 90% of todays caravanners wouldnt be seen dead towing that. things were so much simpler then. but i here the wi fi connection was crap in them. 😂😂

Great times in many ways - hey radio reception wasnt great had to put radio by a window ha ha - look back at the cars then and you realise just how things have changed few folk had central heating my patents used paraffin stoves in winter for the house !!! Thanks for commenting
