OMG! These cars! OMG! If my dad were still alive, he would have loved this and probably could identify all of them instantly by sight. For those who may be wondering where they got these cars, especially the cherry-condition Cadillacs, LaSalles and the others in magnificent condition, they weren't part of the studio's prop department! That's for sure! They would have been rented from classic car collectors. That was pretty much standard practice, such as the steam locomotive in "Petticoat Junction" which was rented from Harvey Dick in exchange for a credit for his "Hoyt Hotel" in Portland, Oregon. Your generated voice on this is an excellent imitation of Earl Hamner, the creator of the series as well as its voice-over narrator. Thanks for posting all of these! They're fantastic!

Do y’all prefer this format - just showing the cars, without any storyline? OR the previous format, including the episode’s storyline with the cars? Or maybe something in between? Thanks for your input!

i'd be more interested in the particular vehicle histories, but that stuff is usually poorly-documented. narrator program would sound more like ralph waite if he was making political complaints.

@@FusionKidd I think I would prefer just showing the car and along with the episode number, date, and season unless the car is a predominant feature of the series like Starky's red Grand Torino.

So many cars on The Waltons. This is a better way to showcase them. Thank you. Nice job.

Fun trivia fact from Judy Norton's channel - Will Geer never drove, so when Grandpa Walton was shown in a car they usually pulled it along into the scene - when it called for a closer shot with him supposed to be driving!

I don't remember either Grandpa or John driving a car other than the '40 Plymouth wagon most of the time they always used the Model AA truck.

I wonder if any were converted to automatic transmission to make it easier for characters when they had to drive on or off the set? The early cars seem to roll back once stopped but that might just be the running gear / brakes taking up the slack.

Being a period piece, they had the "luxury" of car-casting a nice variety of makes and models rather than having an overarching product-placement deal. They probably had to work with multiple studio-rental services and classic-car clubs but it helped that they filmed in LA. Compare "Son of a Critch" where it's painfully obvious they must have problems with the limited pool of 1980s cars in Newfoundland.

Great video! That wasn’t Zeb Walton’s Studebaker, it was the Baldwins. Throughout the series they had a studebaker, Franklin, and Packard

The Baldwin sisters showed up different cars depending on the episode, but I understand we weren't supposed to notice that.

Notice in the comparison between 6:39 and 6:50, one difference between luxury cars and basic vehicles, in an era with no automatic transmissions, no air conditioning and almost no power accessories, that would be almost irrelevant today. The Packard had a machined chrome or stainless-steel, probably hand-made, grille, whereas the Ford had the radiator itself in plain sight. Even into the 1960s, the construction of the grill was a key factor in the placement of cars in the pecking order, with Cadillacs having pressed or riveted egg-crate grilles and cheaper models having a lot of stamped, perforated sheet metal in their grilles. During the 1970s, as plastic replaced all of that and chrome-plated plastic could be made almost indistinguishable from machined, hand-assembled metal, the look and construction of the grille became much less of a factor in a car's price and perceived status.
