Classic Day to Night Transformation

In this video I carry out one of my classic day-to-night processes, starting with a wonderful photograph taken around noon on a grey autumn day. I will be using generative fill and the remove tool and completing a sky replacement in Adobe Photoshop, and then back in Adobe Lightroom Classic, where I transform the scene into an evening shot. As this video shows, the workshop was a great success. We learned how to anticipate the result of the photo even before clicking it. In addition to details that can turn a simple photo into a true masterpiece. All complemented with hours of post-treatment. It was 10 days of great learning, accompanied by beer, good food and great conversations. And all of this, in the beautiful English medieval cities. Excellent work Jimie!!!!

I love, love, love this one. As a matter of fact, it may be my favorite ever! In my mind, I can imagine William Shakespeare walking towards us on the road on the left side OR I can imagine Winston Churchill walking towards us on the sidewalk on the right, carrying a folded umbrella in his left hand, and chomping down on a cigar in his mouth holding it with his right hand. Mary will flip out over this. She'll be showing it to everyone she knows and will be beaming with pride. What a masterpiece!!

Another great and informative video 😀 spotted it late last night but wanted to save it for this morning with a cuppa and a biscuit l think l hav3 watched most of your videos and learn something each time and there are many days out where l look to shoot buildings with intent of making a day to night conversion l’m also quite fortunte to liv3 quite rural and in a elevated location so l get some great skies and are building up quite a collection of stormy, sun rise and sun set skies for use in my attempts at day to night so many thanks for your inspiration and sharing your knowledge hopefully I’ll manage to get on one of your workshops and say thank you in person ….. until them Thank You!

Love your videos Jamie. - Just wondering, with so many people currently switching away from Adobe products if you have any plans to use any other editing suites for some of your future videos? It would be interesting to see if this technique is even possible in something like Luminar NEO.

@@keithdraycott I do use Neo, but for day to night it is very challenging, as the masking function are nothing like as flexible. There is no real alternative to Lightroom and photoshop they are just to good !

Thanks for another great transformation. Why are you cropping always to 16 x 10 and not 16 x 9 like other photographers?

thanks for the question, I find that 16/9 can be a little to panorama'ish, and the 16/10 is a ratio my printer uses 🙂

Yeah , great as always, but this ai , generative in ps , its something i cant use cos there is no subscription for my country for adobe.

The remove tool and clone tool, as well as the patch tool can be used without a direct connection to the Adobe servers, so worth exploring what tools you have available to you.

I think it was 14mm taken with my RF 14-35mm F4
