Dude, you really know your job, it's the second time I saw you doing something in the most classical way! Honestly you are my favourite bartender for tutorial. I drink dry martini since kid and I hope you don't mind few pieces of advice: the secret is the temperature, personally holding the gin bottle in the freezer and the vermouth in the refrigerator makes a huge difference as the ice will melt much more slowly keeping it more dry.

Simply a classic for a reason, I love em. However I just can't wrap my mind around how someone thought of mixing a wine (vermouth) with a spirit. I guess maybe that's all they had available or something. I never would have thought of that if I was trying to invent my own cocktail, but I'm glad they did!

Billy Underwood Theres not many cocktails w/degree pf personal preference as a Martini! imho- this is a Gin Gimlet, which couldve done better with vermouth sprayed through an atomizer in the glass, I doubt much flavour was imparted from ice. A good bottle of Pale Dry Vermouth can be stored with stoppers and air removal in the refer for enough time to finish it reasonably.

I was very impressed w your other cocktails but your martini just isn't right 1) This is not classic (ratio is wrong) 2) This is bone dry, not dry, (you discarded the vermouth) Bartenders usually do it your way when vermouth has been in the back storage for months and isn't fresh (it's a wine after all). Use fresh vermouth. Be proud of it. Go 3:1, or 5:1, if you like it drier
@casperr1299
@casperr1299 4 жыл бұрын
Ry N from my understanding everyone does it different depending on region/location so there really is no correct “classic” way. I was taught in bartending school to coat and discard the dry vermouth aswell, except to coat glass not the ice for a dry martini, & the extra-dry with no vermouth at all, only the regular martini left the dry vermouth fully basically . & for ratio 8ct/2oz of gin or vodka.

There is no other cocktail imho as personalized as a Martini! Impossible for any bartender to please everyone. It is the main reason Martini lovers are loyal to particular bartenders, whom they’ve already well trained to their personal likes & dislikes. This recipe is text book by the Gin makers (of course).

To much work. The easy way: Keep your Gin in the freezer. Fill your martini glass with cold water, empty it and put it in the freezer. You should have 3-4 of them in there for each drinker. Put your vermouth in the refrigerator. If you are cheap, pour some vermouth in a shotglass. You do not need much of it. After about one hour, take out your martini glass, slam some vermouth in it, roll the glass and let the vermouth cover the inside of the glass, and empty the glass. If cheap, back into the shot glass. You can reuse that shit. Now fill the marini glass with gin. Twist some lemon over it, do not throw compost material in your drink, just twist over. Get those oil out there. Drink. Later in the evening, the gin do not need to be that cold, just leave the bottle on the table. You dont really need that lemon thing, and the gin will be perfectly happy if you show it a picture of a bottle of vermouth. Skål!
