On a beautiful July 30, 2010 on former B&O trackage, with a lot of heritage left in place, such as CPL's and freight cars and cabooses, we explore some of the Buffalo and Pittsburgh operations in Southern New York / Northern Pennsylvania. We catch two trains, one being a through-freight, SIJB, and another being a local, BR1. These trains are powered by classic EMD power:
SIJB (Salamanca, NY - Johnsonburg, PA)
B&P SD45-2 459 (built 1969 to SP)
B&P SD40T-2 3302 (built 1978 to SP)
B&P SD45-2 455 (built 1969 to SP)
(The SD45-2's are not pure, all have had modifications, 455 is pretty much an SD40-2)
BR1 (Bradford, PA local)
B&P GP9 626 (built 1958 to NW)
The SIJB is a southbound portion of the train which makes the run from Buffalo to Pittsburgh. This train has a great sounding horn and is seen at five locations. The local also has a great Leslie RS-5T horn and we watch this veteran shift the refinary with a former B&O caboose. Got to love the high, Notch-8 full throttle, shoving action!
Sit back and enjoy, the sights and sounds of a short line railroad, which are much more appreciable than any Class I could provide.
