Back to my childhood and watching the firemen racing into the fire station on their bicycles. We had a Commer QX, just like the one in the video with the bells on each front corner.

A nice collection of old fire engines. Looking at some of those reminded me of Dad's Army, I think they drove an old Dennis as usual got in a right state. 😁 Seeing the Green Goddesses took me back to the fire firghters strike when they were out in force . Those airport appliances have a very powerful jet. I think I saw some do a training session on TV sometime ago. Thanks for sharing this collection. 👍

What’s not to like here?Another great selection.I’m glad to see the wartime AFS Austin K2’s.Much like the austerity spec buses built at the time,they were extremely basic in construction,mainly plywood and very sparsely equipped and were probably not expected to last very long.I’d be interested to know how many were lost in the blitz.Almost all the buses produced during the war had to be re bodied very soon afterwards as unseasoned wood was used and they had a tendency to warp and come apart as you’d expect the Austin’s to do. Many of the buses did service well into the sixties though so there was nothing wrong with the engineering. I really like the fire engines used in company fire services.The Morris Minor is lovely and I bet it had a couple of thousand miles on the clock when it was withdrawn from service.The Portuguese Bedford is a work of art.

I was interested in your video and some the different types, especially the Merryweather turntable. I was an apprentice in Deptford working on many of the Merryweather equipment from 1958 to 1963. So happy to help you with any details of my time there. Pity you do not have any photos of the different tenders and pump engines. I spent most time on the turntable units. Martin

I always enjoy your videos regardless of subject. My late Father drove many appliances during the War and in the "blackout" ... usually heading to Liverpool from Yorkshire during their frequent blitzes. I was always fascinated by his many stories, or tales :) He'd joined the AFS in the '30s and was then conscripted into the regular fire brigade for the duration. He did not enjoy the open Dennis or Leyland in the winter, nor Liverpool.

I joined Sheffield fire brigade in 1969 one of my very early memories was going to a job in the early hours of a very cold winters morning on a turntable ladder LWB 99D an AEC merryweather appliance.It was absolutely freezing and the driver says to me shall I put the heater on, he leaned forward and flicked a switch. The heater turned out to be one of those very early windscreen demisters that stuck on the windscreen with 2 suckers. The same appliance was later turned over going round a roundabout early one morning on the way back from a job. As the appliance lay there in all its glory a passing postman on his rounds remarked to the driver that it was at least as clean underneath as it was on top. Many years later after retirement there was and item in a retired firefighters magazine asking for information about the same machine as he had just purchased it. I hope he has still got it and that is still a runner.

Fantastic montage! A shame, though, to see the GGs without their bells. Luckily I was able to acquire a bell some years ago...now all I need is the GG to put it on! I've driven a GG - wonderful experience and one hell of a workout! My aim now is to find a kind owner who will let me loose on a Dennis F8. Fingers crossed! Subscribed!

The huge green Oshkosh is a USAF Crash Tender developed in the late 60s for coverage of large frame aircraft such as the C-5A Galaxy. This unit was designated a P-15. GVW was 120,000+ lbs. Powered by two Detroit diesel 8V92TAs with Allison automatic transmissions. Power dividers on each drove two 1250 GPM fire pumps. Water tank held 6000 gals/foam tank 515 gals AFFF. The pump & roll capable vehicle could accelerate all 66 tons from 0-50 mph in 60 seconds and put 20,000 gallons of finished product on the ground in 72 seconds. Combined fuel efficiency was 1 mpg on a 70 gallon fuel tank. Each tire contained enough rubber to make 32 automobile tires.

I used to or was on a YTS at GKN Fire Service In Telford. I got to Drive an old FOX and a Landy Fire Truck i also had the opportunity to drive a Range Rover six-wheel at RAF at Cosford. my memories were that She was terrible at Turning in Tight Spaces. My Dream is to Restore a Saxon Dodge in Shropshire Fire Service Speck. I have never seen one as yet. Unfortunately, I Joined in 1986 and they Closed Down GKN Fire Service the Very same Year. The Equipment was in a Poor state then it took ages to start the Land Rover LOL. Glad there was never a Fire LOL.

I own a 1989 Dennis RS rescue pump. Driving it is a real pleasure with its 10.47 litre Perkins diesel V8 engine coupled to an Allison automatic gearbox. A common request from serving firefighters while at various shows and fire service events are, "Can you take our Scania and leave us with your Dennis". studio.kzbin.infovv_YDmsPK8U/edit
