This game is amazing, way ahead of its time. The level design combined with the enemy attack patterns just feels unfair at times, but it's still a lot of fun.

I think it is slowing down because you need to use the 4MB Video Ram expansion which makes a lot of 2D games run arcade perfect

@AceProwduction Well, he could be using a Japanese Sega Saturn, but if he is using a US Saturn, he don't necsarly have a 4MB ram expansion cartridge to play imports. All he needs is action replay cartridge with just 1MB or just a mod cartridge. 4MB cartridges are not easy to get sometimes and some games actually have custom cartridges. This game has natural slowdowns though because of the way it was developed, it is not the Saturn's hardware, it is just sloppy developing, though a good game.

The intro sounds like the intro on sonic adventures 2 on the Gamecube, Awesome Review. CGR should have it's own holiday, lol. Everyone in the world should play all sega games for a whole day. Pure awesomeness.

The PSOne version doesn't suffer from as much slow down as the Saturn. Also an unofficial sequel for this game is Sub Rebellion (aka: -U- Underwater Unit) on PS2, and it is a great overlooked gem of a game. It is a 3D mission based shooter with optional objectives and hidden objects in each mission which will grant more money to upgrade and customize your sub. In The Hunt and Sub Rebellion are both easy to find and are not outrageously priced either.

As some people have mentioned, using the Pro Action Replay set to either 2 or 4MB should get rid of the slowdown. Otherwise awesome review (as always). CGR is actually the only reviewer i check out on a regular basis. Awesome reviews, awesome games. Saturn rocked.

I played this alot in the arcades .The slowdown in the Saturn version does have a positive side though: it makes the game a bit easier if you're low on reflexes (or drunk too much and attempt to play it).

@badarsemother3k Yeah, it's great on Playstation. If you can find it for a good price, get it. It really is like underwater Metal Slug, and though the Metal Slug games might be better, it's still a really good game, and is definitely worth getting for PSX.

I'll stick with my PS1 version of this one, slowdown can be toggled less or more on that version via code, plus it also has the original arcade music as well as this remixed music on it. Myself I prefer the original arcade tunes, the remixed music gets on my nerves. Though I think the PS1 version has 2 levels swapped around from the arcade version which isn't a huge problem, just odd.

The arcade version of this game is excellent, well the graphics are identical but there is no slowdown.

Great game... on the Playstation. It's a very odd case, 2d game better on PSX than Saturn, but it's true. Both the PSX and Saturn versions got US releases, so it doesn't require an import on either one, but the PSX version removes virtually all of the slowdown, actually saves your high scores (the Saturn does not), and has an exclusive optional CD audio soundtrack, in addition to the original arcade PCM chip soundtrack that is in both versions. It's really no contest -- get it on PSX!

Only if the game itself supports it. (this one does not as far as I know) Though I don't remember slow down in the US version at all. But that's just from my memory.
