I loved my Atari 5200 and this game back in '83. I won mine off of a local tv station contest and it came with this as well as an awesome version of Pac-Man. But my all time favorite game on the 5200 (and one the controller actually worked really well on) was Gyruss.

That's cool! I won my Nintendo 64 from a funcoland drawing on release day! They called me at home to tell me I won and I almost hung up on them thinking someone was pranking me lol! I remember the worker even walked me to my car after I picked it up cause they didn't have many to sell and they were afraid someone was gonna mug me for it

There is another incredible version of Mario Bros for the Atari 5200 in a way, which was specially made for the Atari XEGS which is an repackaged Atari 8 Bit PC (ex the Atari 400 & 800) , the Atari 5200 is ALSO an repackaged Atari 8 Bit PC, so with very little modifications with that version it can be played on a Atari 5200 I definitively recommend for any one to check out that version for the XEGS by Sculptured Software, you will be amazed by what the 5200 can do !

The beauty of having an Atari 800 was that all the 5200 games would appear on disk, saving you the horror of dealing with those evil 5200 controllers. My friends and I played this game constantly in the 1980s, it's great fun.

I was about to get a Colecovision for my birthday (Yes, I found out a way to predict what I would get), and I watched the Colecovision videos profusely, watching with so much gusto. I was so damn anxious for my birthday to come, and those videos helped me sate that anxiety.

This is probably the most ported Mario game of all time. It was on the arcade, every home console at the time, it was the battle mode for Mario 3, return of mario bros for the fds, all the mario advance gba games including superstar saga and it's on the Wii's VC. I prefer Super Mario Bros. but it's extremely satisfying to kick stuff around.

Back in the day, when I was a young'un, my parents got me a NES. The pack-in game was Super Mario Bros. + Duck Hunt. I really wanted to play Super Mario Bros. because I loved it at the arcades (OK, to tell you the truth, it was at a "Food Lion" supermarket, not an arcade.) When I started to play Super Mario Bros, I was like, "What's the heck is this?!" I expected "Mario Bros".

There is a European only NES version of Mario Bros called Mario Bros Classic. It makes it more like the arcade game. The sprites are bigger and more correct to their arcade counterparts. It also has the missing introduction screens not present in the US version. I think there are other differences but I'm not sure.
@Linkrules712 жыл бұрын
You're right, but many unlicensed games used a system where you could plug another nes game into the top, this bypass's the 3rd party lockout chip system. There were a few games for the nes like this.

I think they made a mistake, in Donkey Kong Mario (or Jumpman) was a carpenter. In this game he's a plumber working in the New York city sewers. When I first saw this game in an arcade as a kid I made the same error with the game title and called it Super Mario Brose (rhymes with rose) :)

You don't need the consoles in question when emulators are available for all of this classic stuff. And with these arcade ports there is always the option of playing the arcade originals on MAME. This game was awesome no matter what version you're playing. I probably put $50 in quarters into it in the arcades back in the day.

It's possible, but the NES contained a lockout chip to prevent 3rd party cartridges from working. (The japanese famicom however apparently did not, and supposedly had a lot of unlicensed games. - maybe there's some confusion between NES and famicom history?)

"Are you aware that Nintendo was releasing games before they had a console?" Of course, they DID release the original arcade Mario Bros and Donkey Kong. And no, he didn't say anything about licensing as he never implied that at all. Licensing to another company doesn't do too much when the developers and publishers do all the work.

Nintendo didn't make the games then. They licensed them to Atari (who got computer rights) & Coleco (who got videogame console rights). Obviously, Atari got a special license to make it themselves for the 5200 (as well as the 2600 & 7800) as Coleco didn't make a version for the Colecovision.

@SpiralPegasus12 жыл бұрын
I agree up to some extent. We may have different taste in videogames. It's just that fanboys with no knowledge other than "this console didn't sell" abound. Those are full of prejudices (sp?) and go around saying "Y sucks T is better" without actually having given a chance to the thing they say is bad before actually concluding so. Your comment made you look like one of those persons. That's it. (I love Nintendo by the way)
