When I first played The first rayman, I was blown away. Once I played origins I was freaking amazed. And now Legends as arrived and I can't even describe How much I love this game.

Yes, it was actually developed for the Atari Jaguar, which was the original version, and one of the few late releases for it that showed off what the system could actually do. However it was released 7 days after the PlayStation version for some reason. It also came out on Sega Saturn & PC.

Great review, game is best played on Wii U, the touch screen adds a sense of depth which is sorely missed on PS3 and 360 versions. Just tapping a button is not an adequate substitute and it really shows the game was designed for Wii U, also works well on Vita. BTW Derek did a great review of this on Undertow.

I agree, that was the system it was built for, so I feel like playing it on any other platform will keep you from getting the full experience that the developers intended.

Fun fact: Rayman was originally meant to be released for the SNES but they cancelled the port because they wanted to make use of the CD's audio and storage capacities. However, it was first released on the Jaguar, which it's a cartridge-based console, not counting the CD addon.

It was primarily designed around the Jaguar, and the Playstation version was started later, but somehow or another the PS1 iteration came out first. Couldn't tell you why, although I have read that they initially wanted Rayman to be on a CD-ROM console (the cancelled SNES-CD).

Right, for the first weekend in the UK. That's all we know so far. Hardly enough information to determine the best selling version of the game at that point. I'd give it a few weeks so we see how it develops in terms of sales throughout all major territories across all platforms.

Rayman Origins on the 360 is one of my favorites this gen, can't wait to try this one! Also... If you'd like to be paid in Atari games Mark, you could start with the original Rayman, I'm pretty sure it made its debut on the Jaguar!

I guess that Mark didn't do his research this time around. He should have reviewed the Wii U version of the game; the definitive one that adds touch controls to the play. The title was originally a Wii U exclusive and some of the levels on other consoles are dumbed down versions of the original because they were built around the touch controls that only Wii U gamepad offers.

I don't have the money for a Wii U right now, and am not intending on getting a PSVita untill it goes below the 200$ mark, which may take a while, so how does the PS3 version other than the lack of touchscreen implementation hold up in your opinion? Like, performance wise?

The Wii U has some extra features and controls so this was SUPPOSED to be an exclusive, but I'm glad everyone gets to play it though. Can't wait to play this on a Wii U though. I loved Origins! O:

It looks slightly better than 360/PS3 (nothing important though, and not sure about how the Pc version fares) but the main point is that the touch screen makes it much more easy than to use the controller to perform the Murphy actions.

Yes in fact the first Rayman game was made too show off what the Jaguar could do, but as we all know the Jaguar a giant bomb, that ended up having it's leftover unpainted cases used for dental equipment.

Are you referring to the day one sales in the UK? The game hasn't even been out a week yet, so that alone isn't enough to be sure of. Why not wait a few weeks to see how it does in its first month throughout all major territories of release instead of jumping the gun like that?

Just realized that when i was at gamestop pre ordering spiderman 2 and wolfenstein. It was about 35 bucks and let me tell you this game is money well spent. I just love the art and charm of it all. You come home and plop this bad boy in your xbone and i gotta tell ya it helps me relieve a lot of stress.

I've never been able to finish a Rayman game in my life, they always get complicated somewhere, I haven't played Origins or Legends though, but the first Rayman for example, I've given up on, forever, that game is too damn hard

i wouldnt cry for this game, but i happily accept this game on my ps3. that's a brilliant idea from ubisoft since rayman origin is also on ps3. i would cry for bayonetta 2, but i wouldnt go so far as to buy a damn wii u just for the game

well the game was made for the wii u, so all the "touch" functionalities are done automatically by the game on the other versions, so theres no doubt the WiiU is the best version!!

bring back the 2d platformer, bring back games with a real challenge. Im soo glad that the indie seen is exploding in the game industry because its made the big gaming companies realise we still do love platformers. more then ever developers are going back to there roots and improving on a great lost genre of games, such as this or mario and even sonic has made it's first good game in a long..... because its a platformer
