I miss this era of FPS, at least more in line with the original. I miss story driven FPS that were neither linear or really open ended. You had large areas to explore and tackle but all roads lead the same place. Games like RF1 and Half-Life. Both large games and narrative driven....but with a deep immersive atmosphere.

I remember receiving the demo disc (you know; back when they still had those) for this game. I played that thing for hours and it was only one level. Sadly, I could never convince my parents to buy me the full game so I had to wait a few years to get it. Having never played the first, I loved it.

I actually really liked this game back in the day. Had a blast with the single player. The story was more or a less a bit off the track from the first game which kind of let me down. But the gameplay style was still there. Will agree about the geomod though they really fucked it in this game. They pretty much gave you like random walls that were destructable and that was it. I do remember spending HOURS playing the multiplayer. With friends or with bots it was awesome for its time.

I loved this game 10 years ago. It wasnt as good as the original, yes. But it still had its own charm and I still played it through from start to finish. Plus multiplayer with bots is always a nice touch.

first. one major problem is, and well i havent played it, but it looks like and what i have heard is, this has nothing to do with Red Faction 1. not at all. and i saw walkthroughs, it looks weird and nothing like the first.

It's not on Mars, but it gets the same variety I'd say. You get futuristic bases just like in RF1 after about middle of the game. I love it

It is related but it focuses on the nanotech that Capek made. They used it to make supersoldiers and all the problems and solutions with that reality.

Red Faction is a great series of games - 1 is awesome, 2 is pretty good, Guerrilla has one of the most original and fun multiplayer modes i've ever played which i still play now. Sadly Armageddon was a missed opportunity which didn't feature any deathmatch modes at all, i can't figure out why they didn't build on the excellent multiplayer from Guerrilla......it just boggles my mind.

I got this game on GCN a while back since it was cheaper than than other ports. Not a bad game, but it is the only one I've have ever been intersted in. Not thrilled with the prequel's demo, I finally picked it up for $.99. I played the demos of the newest Red Faction games and still not thrilled, though my brother likes the 3rd person games.

Really cheap? No. Red Faction is $.99 at GameStop, but I've been shopping online lately, and it will cost you at LEAST $4.99 for the PS2 verison of RF II which is often $9.99. The GCN port will cost you $3.99-$5.99. The Xbox port will cost you $5.99-$7.99.

Red Faction 2 may not be as good as the first one, but it's a lot better than the third and fourth game. The previous of which was just a sandbox game, where it was fun to blow shit up, but nothing else.

I prefer RF2 over RF1. I don't care much about the single player campaign, the multiplayer part is where the game shines imo, I can play alone against bots, there's 4-player split-screen, 30+ maps, nice game modes, and you can customize several options like bots, weapon set, etc. RF2 & TimeSplitters FP are the best shooters on PS2 imo, and way better than some of the recent shooters.

LOL. they so would. I liked Moon Hunt, Warlords, Boxed In, Coffee Break, and others. But so loved the game mode Team Arena and CTF. It too bad and sucks that they don't make games like this anymore. =/ Now a these days they make shooter games all serious and and realistic instead of making them fun like Red Faction 1 & 2 or any other fun as crap PS2 shooter games. =(

This is actually the only RF game I didn't like. I loved 1 and the later games are nice, but the 2nd just felt generic and the cutscenes came off like they were trying to rip Halo's thing. I too kind of appreciate it more in hindsight, especially given the lack of well done console FPS games earlier in the 32-bit era.

Fuck cod/bf is a bit much i'd say but other than that i agree with you. The time where they made shooters like this is long dead :( Would be really awesome to see a big amazing fps campaign. Either modern or futuristic

does any one know if most of the game devs back in the day were trying to actually make realistic games? coz games like quake, gta BF1942 - 2 etc. were so much more fun and responsive back then with its graphical limits.

red faction one sucked 2 went hard...blowin thru wall,diffrent endingz because of your karma throughout the game,the dialogue was hilarious...i liked all the levels except for the ones underground...got ran over by that train a couple times

They did release Red Faction 1 on PSN, and possibly XBL, im not too sure. But i dont think its remastered in HD.

In the 9 months since I wrote that comment, the problem was eventually resolved. And I won't deny something I know is not true, giving it some truth to it. Well considering you did not deny your setup being a tangled mess, then it must be. No matter how complex a setup is, and bad you must want to play PS2 games, you would have found an easy way to implement a PS2 to your set up. no matter how many times people say "They don't make FPS like the use to" (which is so so very true, I play all my old games more than I enjoy modern games) They won't ever change that outlook to make these games come back to life because they are scared they won't sell as well because of all the CoD clones. Objectively, COD and BF stays true to itself and its audience, if nothing else. True, it seems like the SAME OLD THING over and over again, but there are a lot of things that make them skillfully-made games. Except for Black Ops. And I've only played BF3, so that's my first experience with that franchise. Truth is, those are pretty much the only games I've got currently, so I'm forced to "like" them, haha.

I know this is entirely unrelated to this game at hand but every time a new vid is uploaded, I keep hoping it's the DMC3 review. He reviewed the DMC HD Collection and the first two DMC games right after each other but not the third yet (which is hands down the best one) and this is a good 7-10 videos later. thats not a reason to play Xbox360.... not by far. the ps3 is backwards compatible, just not with ps2 games, but can still be considered backwards compatible. and to be honest fanboyism is such a stupid thing as both systems have good and crappy games.. at least in my opinion both are equally awesome.. Hell I have both systems.. I like games, don't matter on what system..

I hate when people compare original games to there sequels. Most good game compaines that make sequels aren't trying to make it like the original and yet everyone compares the sequels to the originals. It's so annoying to see and hear this crap in every review of a game sequel. Why can't people just play them for what they are? A different take on the original of the game?

The split screen on this was absolutely hilarious, because all the bots had stupid names like 'Monkey', 'Cletus' and 'Pinggy'. But my all time favourite has to be 'Nug'. I remember playing this game with my cousin, me and him vs 2 bots. He got killed and I remember him shouting 'I got shot by Nug, WHO THE FUCK IS NUG?!?'. I was in hysterics. Good timez.

I really enjoyed this when it came out, pretty much because I could dual weild machine pistols and pretend to be Neo (yeah I know, but I was lot younger then). also obvious plot comparisons to russian history RF1 = Battleship Potemkin RF2 = Trotsky and Stallin

I know its availability on the playstation store... my comment is for the reason that the ps3 cannot play ps2 discs out of the box.. not all ps2 games are on the store yet.. and I shouldn't have to buy it again to play it if I already have a copy of the game...but that's just me.

Cod and Bf just gets boring,the single player mode really doesnt have much that i like and the online gameplay is just frustrating due to little kids/campers/hackers and so on. i just dont like it. you may like it and thats cool. but its my opinion and i dont like the games

I remember being disappointed with this game, it just paled in comparison to the original. I really liked the Rail Driver in this one and the lack of the awful stealth bits from the original was an improvement. But zombies? What was that all about? :P

I was disapointed in this game the first time around too. After watching this review, maybe ill check it out again. The Geomod from the first one was definitely the best thing i had seen in an FPS since the Cougar Magnum in Goldeneye 007.

Yeah I don't get why the older ps3s were able to play ps1-2 game but the new ones don't. It's not like it's costing them money. Backwards compatibility shouldn't even take that much space either it just software.

@Skullforce4 Never said that graphics are what matter. Performance and controller preference do matter though. Graphics are a nice bonus though. If you have a choice might as well get the best version.

Red Faction 1 only had bot matches for 1 player skirmishes afaik, and splitscreen for 2 players but just head to head without bots. Or is my memory really that clouded :o
