Classic Game Room HD review the Colecovision Roller Controller! The Coleco Vision Rollercontroller has a track ball, 2 standalone joysticks and 28 buttons. It shares a power cord with the Colecovision video game console and basically kicks all kinds of ass. If you want to play certain kinds of Colecovision games like Slither then you will need to use this awesome controller. Remember back when stand up arcade machines like Missile Command and Centipede had track balls? Relive those days with the Coleco Vision Roller Controller in this review. Find out if this is the retro video game controller for you! Classic Game Room is the best source for retro gaming reviews as we are the self proclaimed premier old school game reviewer of the millennium. The Colecovision Roller controller is a classic gaming accessory that you must own if you play Colecovision. This review was filmed in HD widescreen 1080i with a Canon XH-A1 videocamera. This is the best video game controller from the 1980's and works like a champ today.

How Cool! I didn't know the Colecovision Roller Controller Plugged into the power adapter like that. You know that means business when the CONTROLLER is powered off of that huge power supply. As for size of systems... You need to get an Atari 5200... That system says "Don't screw with me"...

There is substancial difference. Old consoles typically had a 10W PSU, this now fits onto half a credit card. HD consoles you mention have something like 400W or more PSU. The difference is that PSUs of 80ies worked on the frequency of the AC outlet, the ones starting from 1990 are based on high-power high-frequency semiconductors, to remodulate the AC. At high frequencies, transformers get much smaller and more efficient.

Powering all from one PSU would possibly excede the power rating of one supplied. Using standard wallwarts also means that the actual device is inherently electrically safe and might not need specific certification, that's why internal PSUs might not have been considered. This input device probably needs ridiculously little power for itself.
@3yE
@3yE 16 жыл бұрын
Sometimes so that people feel like they are buying something that's worth the money they are paying. Often all of the electronics would only take half of the enclosure (e.g. on original NES), and one would find an additional metal piece added just for weight. As for AC adaptors, well they really couldnt be made any smaller until end of 80ies.

tecnically you could hook this up to the atari 2600 you would have to keep the power pluged into the colecovision but plug the controller into the 2600 (they use the same plug)

@cryinglion

Ahh, but the downside was that if you wanted to play games with great graphics and game play you had to have a lot of money & time for the arcades. The home consoles were in fact expensive when new. Just like today. However, unlike today you had no way of knowing if a game was good unless you had a friend who had the game, or played a demo at the store. Graphics were important, but you had to just settle for sub-par.
