I convinced my friend back in 1994 to buy this game because I thought it was Sonic Triple Trouble for the Mega Drive (go figure) and featured Sonic with Knuckles and Tails. He kept blaming me for months

I played this game back in the day, never had a genesis myself though. I was like -6 when it came out, lol! The hair cut place near my moms office always had video games to play while they cut your hair. The owner let me come and play the Genesis even when I wasn't getting a hair cut! Could never even get past the first level but this game was fun. Since that place closed I've cut my own hair! It just wouldn't be the same getting it cut anywhere else.

You're right, this game was rushed out for Christmas '93 because of delays to Sonic 3. The developers admitted the slow frame rate (30fps) was due to the game being coded in C as they didn't have time to write it in assembly language.

You actually don't need to paddle through the sludge. All you have to do is go to the top and he will fall in basically automatically.

Been waiting for you to review this Mark. One of my favorite games as a kid. I still love listening to the music. Reviews always complain about this game being hard, but I don't remember it being that challenging. Of course I was much better at these games as a kid, so I'm sure I would sing a different tune now.

Sonic Spinball was alright, but my favorite is Metroid Prime: Pinball! That game rocks! The best Metroid game ever, in my opinion.

This really doesn't push the hardware limits at all, after playing stuff like Alien Soldier, Ristar and Vectorman that's quite obvious. If the game suffers from slowdown that's because the team at Sega were dozing off while developing it.

I remember owning this game, but never made it pass the jetflying level. Fact it maybe sometimes want to switch over to Sonic 3 combine with Sonic and Knuckles.

I've read somewhere that the game was a rush job and thus programmed in a higher level C++ instead of Assembly. The compiled code was not efficient enough for the Genesis and the cause of the slowness.

I imagine that the speed problem is due to this being coded in C rather than Assembly like the original 4. They could probably optimise more with Assembly because of its 'closeness to the metal' but not for C, resulting in a slower engine.

There is actually a good reason why the game runs slow. It was coded in C rather than the standard practice of coding a game in Assembly. It takes far more CPU cycles to process C than the M68000 Assembly.

Also this game was made by Sega of America, Yuji Naka the creator of Sonic was not involved. That´s why it´s technically not that well made, but that didn´t stop me from enjoying it. You think that is slow? Try the Game Gear version hehe...
