Yes, Shadow Squadron was a friggin' AWESOME game!!! It had a very smooth frame rate, very useful 3D radar display, huge star ships you could blow apart piece by piece, and the draw distance was so far away the ships were literally too small to see except for the target indicator brackets that let you know they were there. There was no popping in & out of view.

The problem with the jaguar was it was really 36bit not 64, but due to some weird addons to its hardware it became techically 64 on paper, but those addons also made it very hard to develop games for so most developers just chose to make games for different consoles instead.

I note that you don't cover when the game utterly FAILS and is rendered utter shite: Once entering the navigation inside a Star Destroyer. Based on that, and how weak most of the games were (relative to the expense), it's why I sold my 32x 4 weeks after buying it.

This game particularly wouldn't be so bad if you know, you could actually pause the game, which you can't. I literally kept pressing start and the game did not pause. It just kept switching between 3rd person and 1st person view. And I noticed there's no option menu either, so that's another problem.

ArticWolf2015 Ultra V-Fox 2nd Channel I've had fanboys on other clips, experts who weren't even around when this shit was dropped on us, lose their shit on me because I commented on fucking bad the 32X was. I was a hardcore Sega fan till I got Sega CD'd and then this piece of shit. I only bought the (excellent) DC after Sega went tits up in hardware. This game was fucking horrible.

+Carnage Insaniac I'm sure when the Rebel pilots were assaulting the Death Star they would've loved some sort of Force pause or rewind ability but uh, nope they mostly all died. lol Sorry, couldn't help but kid around. In all honesty, pausing is a nice feature but you don't get to pause arcade machines and I'm pretty sure that's what this game was trying to emulate; that faced paced arcade action. Which also would explain why you get a few lives then game over, no continues... At least none I remember, could be wrong though.

Starblade, Hard Drivin', Race Drivin', and Stun Runner would have all been great on the 32X. Since its power fell short of the next generation of consoles, it would have been nice to see more 3rd party arcade conversions given how well Space Harrier and After Burner turned out!

Petty complaint: if I played this for too long in one go, constantly seeing the unnecessary apostrophe in "TIE's" would drive me crazy. I know it could technically be short for "tie fighters", but that's an increasingly archaic method of writing the word. Nothing against the game, but they should have checked their grammar.

@plurp7 Technically, yes the SNES required an addon to pull off the 3d effects. Starfox contained the Super FX chip, the first 3D graphics accelerator in a consumer product.

I wasn't a big fan of the 32x...most of the games were not very good, and the games didn't look much better than the snes at the time.....this was one of only a handfull of good games that came out on the 32x (although i prefered starfox on the snes) I dont think we will see too many reviews of snes games by CGR (he admitted to being a genesis guy growing up...(which is not a bad thing, both systems had tons of great games) Super metroid would make for an awesome review though...

i remember my fiend lending me the game and the 32X, the game was fun the 32x stopped working b4 long. I felt arwfull giving him back his 32x which refused to work properlly. It wasnt untyill resently when i found out some 32xs broke down when used with a MD mark 1.

Great Review, There is also another game very simliar to this game on the Gamecube, It's pretty awesome. I like the music at the end of the review. Everytime I here that music, I always think of Han solo blasting the green guy in the bar, lol.

You know what Star Wars game kicked ass? Star Wars Trilogy Arcade. The one where you sat down in front of a big rear-projection screen and used a joystick. Nowadays you can't even find one without the Star Wars logo burned into the screen.

We have Star Wars, Virtua Fighter and Virtua Racing. The only 3 games that makes diference with Sega Genesis on the 32x. The other are horrible. Even Knuckles Chaotix is not as good as the Genesis Sonic Games

I don't see why this game is called Star Wars Arcade because it is not. The original Star Wars Arcade game had vector graphics. This game has full color graphics. It may be more advanced than the real Star Wars Arcade, but it is not Star Wars Arcade and should therefore not be called that.
